Tropes:

  • Amusing Injuries: Subverted. As a result of the ghost becoming angry and vindictive, MK, Mei, Liu Boqin and his wife Jin are clearly in pain as they get tossed around the house.
  • Anti-Villain: The Ghost Grandpa, as it turns out, is simply the spirit of a sweet old man who just loves his family so much that he's not ready to leave them. Tang explains that while his earthly ties are important. He still needs to move on to the next phase of his existence. Which helps calm the ghost down and pass on without further issue.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Mei asks if Tang is a reincarnation of Tang Sanzang, MK's response is to say "That's unconfirmed."
  • Call-Back: When Tang wakes up, he doesn't have his glasses and needs MK to return them, having lost his glasses while getting captured in the previous episode.
  • Cassandra Truth: When MK and Mei try to explain to Tang that they are his friends. Tang, being influenced by his past life as the monk Tang Sanzang. Is dismissive of them, and the pair's pleas end up falling on deaf ears.
  • Cooking the Live Meal: MK and Mei run into Tang Sanzang, as he's about to be cooked alive in a pot by two demons. Instead of fighting back himself, as MK and Mei expect. Tang Sanzang is pretty accepting of his impending doom. Fortunately, MK and Mei save him.
