Recap / Monkie Kid S 3 E 7 Cooking With Changee

Go To

While watching Pigsy's favorite cooking show, "Cooking with Chang'e", MK realizes the second ring is there in her kitchen - On the moon.

Tropes:

  • Ascended Fanboy: Pigsy, a huge fan of Chang'e's cooking show, gets to have a guest appearance on it to promote his noodle recipe. Needless to say, he's over the moon about it.
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • When Monkey King changes the T.E.A. into a rocket ship for the moon, there's only room enough for him, MK, and Pigsy. Mei and Tang pretend they don't want to go but, rather than find a way to bring them along, he takes off without them. The two quickly get over it, though, and watch over Sandy.
    • MK assumes that Chang'e is mad about him stealing the ring to which Chang'e states that he can have it since she knew that it was going to be important. The item she's mad about was her cookbook being stolen by Pigsy. Pigsy admits that he took it but only because he was leaving her a copy of one of his recipes because he was such a big fan of hers.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: Sun Wukong can breathe in space because he states that "Space suits are for dorky mortals". Later on, Chang'e' easily removes MK's helmet and it's revealed that he can breathe just fine.
  • Bookends: The beginning and end of the episode depict an episode of Cooking with Chang'e.
  • Call-Back: MK stating that they're going to the "Celestial Realm" due to the previous season having him mix that and "Space".
  • Chekhov's Skill: At the start of the episode, MK accidentally shrinks the T.E.A, with Sandy inside, when he was actually trying to transform it into a rocket ship. Near the end, he shrinks a security robot rabbit, though he later admits he was trying for something cooler to beat it.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Monkey King can’t bring himself to fight Chang’e’s security rabbit robots because they’re just so adorable. And they get even cuter when MK shrinks it down to bunny size.
  • Easily Forgiven: Chang'e doesn't get mad that Pigsy stole recipe book — as he did it so he can gift her one of his recipes — and decides that he'll have her guest star in her next Cooking with Chang'e episode.
  • Moon Rabbit: While not actual rabbits, the robot enforcers on the moon are all rabbit-themed to match Eastern Folklore. There's even an underground factory that creates snacks, similar to said folklore.
  • Show Within a Show: The titular Cooking with Chang'e is a cooking show hosted by the Moon Goddess that Pigsy is a huge fan of.
