Go To

Air date: July 23, 2019note

Cabbagezilla: Trini is excited to enter her giant cabbage into the Alaska State Fair and win first prize, but a moose keeps nibbling at its leaves.

"Cabbagezilla" contains the following tropes:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Molly can't seem to remember Sadie Albert's name and calls her by other names, such as Sarah Matthews.
  • Berserk Button: Don't mess with Texas.
  • Everything is Big in Texas: Trini's not convinced Alaskan vegetables can grow bigger than they do in Texas like Molly claims they can until she plants some herself.
  • Giant Food: Vegetables in Alaska grow to absolutely enormous sizes, much to Trini's delight.
  • Hero Worship: Trini's first Alaskan hero is a famous vegetable grower named Sadie Albert.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Molly tells Trini to be patient after emailing Sadie Albert, as the odds of her replying right away...are obviously very good. Twice in a row.
  • Two First Names: Sadie Albert.

Name Game: Molly has to impress Aunt Merna if she wants to get her Native name.

"Name Game" contains the following tropes:

  • Bilingual Bonus: This episode highlights Native names and their meanings. Most of the names are in Gwich'in, but a few other languages are highlighted as well.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The episode title card shows pictures of Walter, Layla, Nat and Midge with their Native names written above them.
  • How We Got Here: The episode opens with Molly, covered in mud and feathers, explaining her appearance on her vlog.
  • Meaningful Name: The focus of the episode.
  • Name That Unfolds Like Lotus Blossom: Several Native names translate to whole sentences, like Dak Niighit ("she is rising up in the air").
  • No Full Name Given: Ironically, we never find out what Aunt Merna's Native name is.
  • One-Steve Limit: Molly is certain this applies to Native names. Tooey informs her that is no guarantee, then explains how he was quite surprised to discover there was another kid in Alaska named Tooey when he began receiving the latter's mail.
  • The Stoic: Aunt Merna doesn't say much, doesn't smile, doesn't much like hugs, and responds to just about everything Molly says or does by clearing her throat.
