Go To

Air date: January 15, 2020 (CBC); February 12, 2020note

"Winter Champions": In an attempt to entertain themselves through the long winter months, Molly and the gang organize an outhouse race to determine who will become "Winter Champions."

"Winter Champions" contains the following tropes:

  • Friendly Rivalry: Molly and Tooey start one with Oscar and Trini.
  • Secret Handshake: Oscar and Trini make up their own to outdo Molly and Tooey's.
  • Title Drop: Repeatedly, as the kids take turns calling themselves "winter champions."
  • Toilet Humor: Molly's parents let her start an outhouse race on the grounds that she does not engage in this. The rule gets broken more than once, though not nearly as much as one would expect.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: Molly tells the story of the outhouse race on her vlog.

"Hus-Keys": After hearing that her Great-Aunt Merna keeps misplacing her keys, Molly decides to create a tutorial video to help Merna train her dog to find them for her.

"Hus-Keys" contains the following tropes:

  • Blatant Lies: Tooey tells Molly he barely noticed her edited voiceover adding, "the keys," to her dialogue, but then when Molly looks away, Tooey visibly winces.
  • Call-Back: Molly uses Travis Hightower's book, "Best Beasts Ever and Where to Find them," as a prop in her video.
  • Fix It in Post: Molly resorts to editing clips of Suki's training session together to make it look like she's further along in her training than she actually is.
  • Meaningful Name: Aunt Merna names her dog Dolt'ol, which means "full moon," because her face looks like a full moon.
  • Pronoun Trouble: Tooey and Kenji both refer to their lead dog Luka as a boy, but later Tooey calls Luka a she.
  • Technologically Blind Elders: Molly coaches Aunt Merna through setting up a video chat. Merna keeps accidentally turning the camera off or hanging up entirely.
