Best watch out, Teruki—that hooker does not have a heart of gold!

The series advances 14 years. Rin and Mimi's office building is scheduled to be demolished, and the late Kouki's son Teruki is now a university student who passes his time playing on the Internet in virtual reality. After a cybersex session with a girl named Ruon—one of many identical avatars in a virtual brothel—he asks to meet the girl behind the avatar in "1.0" (i.e. meatspace). She agrees, but when they meet up, to she's murdered right in front of him. In search of answers, he tracks down the now-retired Tamotsu, who puts him in touch with Rin.

Tropes:

  • Disposable Sex Worker: Subverted. The Ruon that Teruki saw shot was one of the AI Ruon's remote bodies, shot up to prevent its escape from the lab.
  • Future Slang: Internet virtual reality realms are referred to as "2.0", with "1.0" being the real world (what real-life computer people usually refer to as "meatspace").
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: When Teruki meets Rin, they're ambushed by Laura, who badly mutilates Rin yet again before being driven off. Teruki witnesses her regenerating, which forces her to explain about the immortals and time fruits. Like father, like son.
  • Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy: The Men in Black who kill Ruon and then pursue Teruki fire at him a couple dozen times and miss all of them, and then crash their car into a chain-link fence for good measure.
  • Kiss Me, I'm Virtual: The Ruon AI is tested by using it to run avatars in a virtual brothel.
  • Say My Name: Upon realizing Rin is killed, Teruki says her name out loud while he is witnessing the plane exploding.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Rin right before she's sucked into the airplane engine.
  • Turbine Blender: To stop Ruon from pursuing Teruki as he parachutes to safety, Rin tackles her out the door of the airplane. She has just enough time to say "Just what i need. This is could be bad!" before they're both sucked into one of the plane's engines. Cut to a blast of blood coming out the exhaust, and the plane catching fire and exploding.

Rin versus Ruon

"Ghosts Don't Scream". Fighting to save Teruki Maeno from the crazed robot Ruon, Rin tackles her out of the plane, and has just enough time to realize she's possibly gotten into even worse trouble before they're both sucked into a jet engine. Then the plane explodes for good measure.

How well does it match the trope?
