Recap / Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries S 2 E 11 Dead Air

Go To

  • The Bluebeard: James Creswick, the murderer. He killed his first wife, and slowly poisoned his second, for "defying" him by wanting independence. He killed Louisa when she confronted him for the first wife's death.
  • Call-Back: A news-stand image shows that "Bride of Babylon" from an earlier episode is still showing - and topping the box office.
  • Let's Duet: Phryne comes across Jack playing the piano at the end of the episode, and joins him in a lovely duet of "Let's Misbehave". It's both a sweet musical moment and a Ship Tease of the highest order.
  • Monster of the Aesop: The murderer is an insanely traditionalist husband who is obsessively against wives having any defiance or freedom, a dark reflection of Dot and Hugh's subplot where he chafes against her wanting to continue to work after they marry. In the close of the story, Hugh learns his lesson.
  • Oblivious Guilt Slinging: At different points, both Phryne and Mr Butler mention to Dot how much they value her presence in their lives, not knowing that she's currently grappling with the thought of giving up her job when she marries Hugh.
  • The Other Darrin: In universe. Phryne takes over voicing a character in a radio drama when the original actress dies.
