That's my weather girl!

"So correct you are, you should have won, yes... Stormy Weather. I am Hawk Moth. I give you the power to seek revenge on them as my weather girl. All you have to do is bring me the Miraculous. Can you do that, hm?"
Hawk Moth

Marinette finds herself torn between her babysitting duty and a chance to get closer to Adrien, while Hawk Moth targets Aurore Beauréal, final round loser of a KIDZ+ television contest to find a new weather girl, turning her into the deadly Stormy Weather.

Tropes:

  • Acting Unnatural: Marinette's attempt at walking next to Adrien as if they "just happened to be passing by" is anything but casual.
  • All Girls Like Ponies: Alya's way of dealing with Manon involves claiming to be secretly a unicorn. It's implied she's used this tactic often when dealing with little girls, like her sisters.
  • Between My Legs: Of Stormy Weather in the first half of the episode, and Ladybug in the second half.
  • Blatant Lies: Plagg informs Adrien that he can't help him right now because he's sleeping. And immediately afterward claims to be able to smell cheese while asleep.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Manon, though Alya fortunately knows how to take care of her.
  • By "No", I Mean "Yes":
Alya: Let me guess, another "you couldn't say no" favor?
Marinette: No, I just couldn't... say... no...
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: In the final round of the contest, Mireille gets 82% of the votes, while Aurore gets 18%.
  • Do Not Adjust Your Set: Stormy Weather briefly takes over a recording studio to make her "weather announcement".
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • The only episode without an endcard.
    • Some of the Stock Footage scenes (like Cat Noir's Cataclysm and Ladybug catching the Akuma) have a different associated dub than in the other episodes, and Cat Noir's Transformation Sequence is on a silver background instead of green.
    • Some of the characterization is off from later episodes since it was the pilot. Adrien has to trick Plagg into helping him and as Cat Noir is significantly more bumbling without Ladybug to help him than he is in later episodes. In addition, Alya not only is unusually casual around Ladybug compared to her usual fangirl self, but when Marinette runs off and Ladybug returns she not only doesn't seem surprised unlike Manon but gives Ladybug a thumbs up when Manon buys her story about Marinette running to get Ladybug's help, implying she knows it's Marinette and keeps her secret. It's quickly established in the next few episodes that she chases Ladybug obsessively to get the scoop on her and find her identity and has no clue it's actually her friend.
    • When the akuma enters Aurore's umbrella, only the tip of it turns black; all other episodes would have the whole object blacken when corrupted.
    • The Miraculous Ladybugs are a darker shade of red and only cause the ice dome surrounding Alya and Manon to melt instead of instantly erasing everything caused by the Akumatized villain.
    • None of the usual recurring characters like Tom and Sabine, Nino, the rest of Ms. Bustier's class, Gabriel Agreste or Nathalie appear at all.
    • Despite the episode beginning at Marinette's house, her bedroom is nowhere to be seen, and she and Manon are watching TV in the living room. In pretty much any other episode, whenever Marinette is in her house, she spends most of the time in her bedroom.
    • The Theme Music Power-Up moment uses both Cat Noir and Ladybug's themes. Future episodes would only use Ladybug's, even when Cat's the one getting the action moment.
    • The mechanics of how the akumas work seems to be a bit different here. The akuma causes the elevator's power to fail to trap her before forcing itself through the shut door and into the umbrella while Aurore notices it and frantically tries to keep it away. In later episodes akuma do not have any ability to influence the environment or force their way to victims at all, and have to usually approach unnoticed to get into an object and things like doors and other objects can and will be able to block them and they will be avoided in some cases. In addition Hawk Moth seems to influence some kind of mind control over Aurore as he seems to convince her that she's been slighted and to seek revenge and Aurore just repeats what he says word for word until she's turned into Stormy Weather. Later episodes would never show him having this kind of direct influence in his victims again, and while he can be very persuasive people can and will reject him if they truly don't want to be akumatized.
  • Eye Scream: In one of the stories Ayla tells Manon, a princess is being held by a cyclops, but escapes by poking it in the eye.
  • Face Palm: Marinette at the end, when Manon is chosen instead of her to make a photoshoot with Adrien.
  • Large Ham: Adrien's photographer is very enthusiastic about his work.
  • The Nicknamer: Cat Noir has fun calling Stormy Weather names like Ice Queen or Coldilocks. In the French version, he also calls her Lady GlaGla.
  • Rewatch Bonus: Alya spins tale after tale while she and Manon are trapped inside the frozen carousel, seamlessly blending them together in an enticing narrative in order to keep the girl calm. This talent of Alya's will become important in later episodes.
  • Second Place Is for Losers: What's the big deal? She only lost by half a million votes!
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Alya trying to get Marinette to be Adrien's photography partner. Just as Marinette drums up the confidence to ask, the photographer asks to use Manon instead.
  • Shoot the Television: Stormy can't help but blast a TV monitor with Mireille's face on it.
  • Shout-Out: The brief first person sequence of Adrien running up stairs and pushing through red doors resembles a sequence from Mirror's Edge.
  • Slippery Skid: Justified, since Stormy Weather doesn't stop on freezing pavement but also starts wind capable of lifting cars.
  • Sore Loser: Aurore storms off and only starts ranting in an elevator when she's alone, making her a rather Downplayed example, at least compared to Stormy Weather.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Manon figures out Marinette's secret: she's friends with Ladybug. Marinette responds with a smile and hug (and a sigh of relief) rather then confirming or denying it.
  • Theme Music Power-Up: After Ladybug does her Sherlock Scan and enacts her plan, Cat Noir's theme plays while he grabs Stormy Weather's attention and Cataclysms the billboard over her, leading smoothly into Ladybug's theme as she constructs her improvised pulley and knocks the umbrella out of Stormy Weather's hand.
  • Weather Manipulation: Today's villain's specialty - Stormy Weather can create hurricane-force winds, hail, lightning, cyclones and blasts of ice with her parasol.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Stormy Weather's ice traps Alya and Manon in a carousel, and causes dangerous spikes to grow inside. Impaled with Extreme Prejudice nearly ensues.
