Title: That's So Gay!
Release date: January 11, 2013

After Chris and Ian hear people make fun of their gay friend Todd, they campaign to turn "That's so gay" into a positive phrase.

Tropes:

  • Cat Up a Tree: As part of their campaign of turning "That's so gay" into a positive phrase, Chris and Ian try to make Todd look heroic by helping him save a suicidal cat from a tree.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: An Earth Drift example. An American flag appears behind Chris and Ian despite the series taking place in the Kaliwit Region. This is addressed in the Season 3 Watch Party.
Chris: Anytime you see something like that, a wizard did it.
  • Forced Meme: Chris and Ian's mission throughout this episode is to turn the phrase "That's so gay" from a discriminating remark to a complimentary statement. It eventually catches on.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Todd was blissfully unaware of the two guys who insulted him until Chris and Ian told him about them.
  • Ironic Echo: Invoked. Chris and Ian say "That's so gay" after complimenting Todd's actions in hopes that people use the phrase in a more positive light.
  • It Will Never Catch On: Todd thinks Chris and Ian are wasting their time trying to make "That's so gay" a positive phrase, but he's proven wrong as it starts to catch on.
  • No Antagonist: The only characters who cause conflict in this episode are two guys who make homophobic remarks about Todd, but they have very minor roles and Todd isn't even aware of their actions until Chris and Ian tell him about them.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Two particularly rude characters only have a few seconds of screentime, but their homophobic remarks drive Chris and Ian to turn "That's so gay" into a positive phrase.
  • Suicide as Comedy: While helping Todd look heroic by saving a cat from a tree, Chris (disguised as an old lady) claims that the cat is suicidal.
Chris: I think he's really going to do it this time!
  • That's What She Said: Ian says this in response to Chris saying "It was a hard thing to do, but it was worth it". They both agree that's one phrase that never gets old.
  • Title Drop: "That's so gay" is said multiple times throughout the episode.
