The Count (pretending to be Mina’s violin teacher) comes to the Harper residence for dinner. The Count meets Mina’s older sister, Lucy Harper, for the first time and Lucy is immediately smitten with what she perceives to be a European nobleman.

At dinner, Vlad finds the human food to be disgusting, but he eats it out of obligation to Mina. That is, up until Mina gives him some of garlic soufflé. Vampires are allergic to garlic so he has to rush home to recover.

"The Vampire Who Came to Dinner" contains examples of…

  • Delayed "Oh, Crap!": The Count has this reaction when meeting Mina's family, specifically her older sister Lucy, whom Mina had failed to mention.
Vlad: It is a pleasure to be invited to dine with Mina, her older sister, and her father. …OLDER SISTER?!
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Lucy bemoans having to stay home for dinner, meaning she'll have to cancel her study date with her boyfriend Bobby, Mina can't really understand how her sister can "get so goofy over some boy". Cue the Count ringing the doorbell, and Mina excitedly yelling "HE’S HERE!"
  • Instant Fan Club: Mina's sister Lucy is immediately enamored with the Count when they first meet, much to his discomfort.
  • Vein-o-Vision: The Count sees Lucy like this at least once in the episode.
