Recap / Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers S3E10 Wizard for a Day

Go To

Thanks to Angel Grove High's "teacher for a day" project, Rocky trades places with strict science teacher Mr. Wilton. With each one of them out of their element, can the atypical pair find common ground? Inspired by this role reversal, Rito is given the title of "Emperor of Evil" for a day by Zedd and Rita and aims to turn one of the Rangers into a monster. But instead, Mr Wilton is struck and transformed into the chemical wizard, Marvo the Meanie! Can Rocky save his teacher and stop the monster at the same time? Meanwhile, the ever-alert Junior Police Officers, Bulk and Skull, spot Rocky with teacher's editions textbooks and set out to bust him for cheating!

Tropes:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal:
Rito: Why that rotten, wretched Red Ranger!
  • Alliterative Name: Mr. Wilbur Wilton, ladies and gentleman.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Played for Laughs. When Rocky and Mr. Wilton switch places, Rocky wears a suit and tie, and Mr. Wilton wears blue jeans and a red t-shirt. The two of them are talking in the park, and the Tengas show up, on a mission to defeat the Red Ranger... so they go after the teacher!
  • Let's See YOU Do Better!: Played for Laughs as Zedd has grown tired of fighting the Rangers and he needs a vacation, so he and Rita sit back and let Rito take the reigns until Marvo is defeated, after which they resume their command.
  • Repeated for Emphasis: When Mr. Wilton explains to Rocky how he should teach his chemistry class, he states that the students won't respect him if he doesn't act hard on them while breaking a karate board with his bare fist
Mr. Wilton: Students won't respect you, unless you are tough! TOUGH! TOUGH! (Breaks board with his fist)
  • Sadist Teacher: Mr. Wilton appears to be so, but as he spends a mile in Rocky's shoes, he shows that he's only a Stern Teacher at worst. He is shown on better terms with the teens in his future appearances.
  • Sarcasm Mode:
Lord Zedd: Well, what are you going to do about the Power Rangers, "master"?
Rito: I know what I'll do! I'll destroy 'em with a monster!
Lord Zedd: Oh, gee, I wish I'd thought of that! No wonder he gets the big bucks!
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Marvo was changed back into Mr. Wilton instead of being destroyed like Amanojyaku was. But come on, did you really think the executives would've permitted the Rangers murdering an innocent, if not overly strict sometimes, teacher?
  • Vacation Episode: For Zedd and Rita. They sit back and humor Rito's delusions about being in charge of the Moon palace for the episode. Once he proves his general incompetence, they're quick to take back their rule with Zedd being so irritated that he STILL needs a vacation!
