Rita is once more attempting to create her own evil Power Rangers, this time by empowering Putties with Badges of Darkness to turn them into Mutant Rangers.

- Drill Sergeant Nasty: Goldar when training the Putties to become Mutant Rangers. He quickly focuses this attitude on #6 for consistently washing out.
- Fair-Play Villain: Tommy's not with the other Rangers during the first big fight, but Commander Crayfish held back the Green Mutant until he showed up rather than have a numerical advantage.
- He's Back!: Enforced by the Pink Mutant when she retreats from the initial conflict with Kimberly and Tommy and then makes the proclamation during her role call with the full Mutant team.
- Never Recycle Your Schemes: Averted; the Mutant Rangers are the second time Rita creates an Evil Ranger team and they're much more effective than the imposters from "A Bad Reflection On You!" To be fair, this team of imposters doesn't appear to be intentionally ruining the reputations of the Rangers, instead simply trying to defeat them in battle.
- No Kill like Overkill: Once the Ultrazord is formed, the Rangers let hell loose on Crayfish and the male Mutants, hitting them hard enough with every weapon the Ultrazord can bring to bear to cause their pyramid formation to collapse as they scream in pained agony before being silenced as they explode into flames, leaving little behind but a few pieces of burning debris as Titanus roars in triumph.
- Oh, Crap!: Commander Crayfish in the face of the Ultrazord.
- The Psycho Rangers: The Mutant Rangers used their own Morphers and wore slightly different costumes (black boots, gloves, and belts) and wielded different weapons (which were actually the same weapons used by the Zyurangers in their civilian forms, plus the Green Ranger's Sword of Darkness).
- Rhymes on a Dime: After morphing in front of the team, the Mutant Rangers pair off for this.Blue Mutant: I'm after you, Blue!
Yellow Mutant: Hey, Trini, you wanna play, too?
Black Mutant: Nice to meet ya, Zack!
Pink Mutant: Told ya I'd be back! - The Runt at the End: The Putty designated as #6 did real lousy in the Mutant Ranger training. Goldar sent him back to the clay jar in Finster's workshop.
- Tactical Withdrawal: After the first big fight, the Rangers retreat to the Command Center to assess their options. To even the odds, Zordon gives them new weapons that Alpha developed.
- This Is Gonna Suck: Kimberly and Tommy when first confronted by their Mutant counterparts.
- We Will Meet Again: The Pink and Green Mutants promise this after the fight at the park.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: The Pink and Yellow Mutants are blown away when the Power Blasters energy beams collide, but then disappear after that and aren’t even shown being killed. We may never know the full context unless the uncut Zyu2 footage can be found.
- Wolf Pack Boss: Commander Crayfish along with the Black, Blue, and Green Mutants make up one during the Megazord fight.
- Worthy Opponent: Goldar states that no Putty is worthy of donning the Red Ranger suit before crushing the Red Badge to dust. Rita promptly creates Commander Crayfish as a leader, though why she didn't order Goldar to keep the Badge for Crayfish's use is anyone's guess.
