Things get bleaker and bleaker. With Norman gone and Virgil captured, Max seeks an unlikely ally for his confrontation with Skullmaster.

- Big Guy Fatality Syndrome: Norman dies fighting the Giant Spider at the start of the episode to show how bad things are getting. With Norman gone, what ability they had to fight back is gone with him. Until Max gets desperate enough to find another ally...
- Enemy Mine: Max makes a truce with Lava Lord to have an ally to go into his final showdown with Skullmaster.
- Reset Button: Max upsets Skullmaster's attempt to gain control of time enough that the series starts over again at the first episode. Except Max and Virgil remember everything that happened, and Max promises this time he'll stop Skullmaster for good.
- Single-Stroke Battle: Lava Lord fights an epic battle against Fuath and finally brings him down. Then Skullmaster just waves his scepter and makes Lava Lord sink underground for good.
- Theme Music Power-Up: As it often does, Max's theme starts pounding out when he's about to save the day. This time it's when Skullmaster has his Oh, Crap! moment when he realizes the power over time isn't going to him, but to Max, even though Skullmaster has his cap. Because it was never the cap that made Max the Mighty One.
- You Can't Fight Fate: Acceptance and rejection.
- Knowing it's his destiny, Norman's determined to face death in battle like a true Viking, even if it is against...eurgh, a Giant Spider.
- Max on the other hand refuses to accept that things are ordained, and in doing so manages to thwart Skullmaster's plan.
- You Said You Would Let Them Go: With seemingly no other options, Max agrees to give his cap to Skullmaster to save Virgil. Skullmaster immediately vaporizes Virgil after, having Max furiously say this to him. The villain claims to have kept his promise to let Virgil go, but he never said he would let him live.
