Death in Chorus is the seventh episode of the ninth series, and the 50th episode overall, of Midsomer Murders'. It originally aired on 3rd September 2006.

DCI Barnaby and DC Jones investigate the murder of Connor Simpson, a member of the Midsomer Worthy choir that had been rehearsing for an upcoming competition. The man was found in his home, bludgeoned to death with a poker. Simpson had received an apparently threatening note attached to a pig's heart. Soon after all members of the choir, Joyce Barnaby included, receive notes saying they're next. When local birdwatcher and photographer Sam Judd is also found dead — the victim of a 12 gauge shotgun — Barnaby is convinced that the two deaths are somehow linked. When they learn of Simpson's criminal convictions — and the reasons he went to jail — they are set on the path to solving the mystery.

Tropes:

  • Dead Animal Warning: Connor Simpson is shocked when a pig's heart is nailed to his cottage door.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Seeing Joyce speed dialling Cully makes Barnaby realise he can simply speed dial the withheld number calling Connor Simpson's mobile to find out who it is.
  • Food Slap: A dispute between two choir directors erupts into a brawl when one of them, Laurence Barker, throws a drink in the other's face in the pub.
  • It Gets Easier: Discussed by Barnaby, noting that after the murderer had killed Simpson, what was killing Judd by comparison?
  • The Perfectionist: Laurence Barker will accept nothing less than perfection from his choir and is scathing when they fall short of his expectations.
