The Stitcher Society is the second episode of the twenty second series Midsomer Murders. It first aired on 11 April 2021 on ITV.

A local outcast, who was acquitted of murder years ago, is the latest inductee of the Stitcher Society, a post-operative heart rehab club. Following his arrival, members start to die.

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: Mimi killed Reuben, Georgie, and Mack because Mack had told Reuben that he'd found a potential witness for Viola's murder. What she didn't know was that Mack was more of a con artist than a private investigator, and had told Reuben what he wanted to hear so he could get more money off of him.
Barnaby: You killed three people for nothing. There was no other witness. It was a lie, Mimi.
  • Bookmark Clue: The SOCO team find an important clue—a newly signed lease—in a book in the first Victim of the Week's house.
  • Cover Identity Anomaly: A Private Investigator joins the eponymous society: a support group for survivors of heart surgery. However, as he has never had heart surgery, he lacks the distinctive 'zipper' scar down the centre of his chest. This ends badly for him when the killer sees him without a shirt and realises that he is an imposter and must have an ulterior motive for being there.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Mimi killed her business partner Viola Deepdale (which in turn led to her committing three more murders) because she criticized Mimi for being too flirty with male clients.
