Harvest of Souls is the sixth and final episode of the eighteenth series of Midsomer Murders and originally aired 17th February 2016.

When the annual harvest fair arrives in the village of Whitcombe Mallet, it reopens old wounds for some villagers. After the son of an equestrian centre owner is found trampled by his own horse, the detectives have to look into a case with much complexity that has its roots in the past, in order to solve an investigation where nothing is what it seems.


Tropes:

  • Deadly Bath: Clara is murdered: incapacitated by a cattle­-prod and drowned in a hydro­-pool.
  • Ransacked Room: The veterinary surgery is broken into and ransacked, with all of the controlled drugs being stolen.
  • Revealing Cover-Up: Nelson realises something is off about the break in at the veterinary surgery. The surgery was ransacked as if the thieves had searched the entire place, but the only things missing were the controlled drugs, indicating they knew exactly what they were after and were it was kept. Nelson concludes the theft was an Inside Job and the ransacking was a smokescreen.
  • Shock Stick: Clara is murdered: incapacitated by a cattle­-prod before being drowned in a hydro­-pool.
  • This Bear Was Framed: After murdering their first victim in the stables, the killer fires a gun fires a gun causing the horse to trample the body. However, Kam's autopsy turns up lethal levels of ketamine in the victim's bloodstream, proving this was no accident.
