Blood Wedding is the second episode of the eleventh series of Midsomer Murders and was originally aired on 6th July 2008.
Cully is finally getting married and Tom Barnaby is anxious to keep costs down as Joyce brings in a camp wedding planner. More dramatic is the union between aristocrat Ned Fitzroy and Beth Porteous when maid of honour Marina is found skewered to a wardrobe in one of the bedrooms. The Fitzroy family's lordly attitude does not help the investigation and then estate manager Robin Lawson and old family servant Peggy are both murdered. Barnaby discovers that both were aware of a sinister Fitzroy family secret, culminating in the events of the Blood Wedding.
Tropes:
- Bookcase Passage: Barnaby finds a priest hole/secret passage concealed behind a bookcase. Most tellingly, the passage leads to the room where the first murder was committed.
- The Bus Came Back: Troy makes a brief guest appearance at the end of the episode.
- Ear Ache: Peggy Benson, the third Victim of the Week, is killed by having a hatpin thrust into her ear.
- Hand Gagging: Before killing Peggy, the murderer clamps a hand over her mouth.
- Pinned to the Wall: Marina Fellowes, the first Victim of the Week, is pinned to the wall with an antique sword.
- Significant Anagram: The cryptic inscription 'Cast no sin here' Barnaby finds on the back of an old photo, is actually an anagram for Catherine's son.
- Sword Fight: This episode features attempted murder by mace, and the would-be victim grabbing a sword to defend himself.
- A Taste of the Lash: Barnaby goes to question The Vicar only to find him flagellating himself in church.
- *Twang* Hello: Robin Lawson puts a longbow arrow into a tree next to Barnaby's head. He claims it was an accident, but there is every indication it was intended as a warning.
