Recap / Mickey Mouse S2 E2 "Fire Escape"

Go To

"Fire Escape" is one of the season 2 shorts of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the 20th to both air on the Disney Channel and to be put up on Disney.

When Mickey sees Minnie's apartment building burning, he tries to save her, but must also save the building's other tenants as well.

Tropes:

  • The Cavalry Arrives Late: Goofy and the firemen arrive just in time to put out Minnie's burning chicken.
  • Counting Sheep: The old man was busy counting sheep in his sleep when Mickey informs them about the fire.
  • Cute Giant: The bunny's youngest bunny is very big, and also helps Mickey with the fire.
  • Double Entendre: The way Goofy says Minnie (and not specifically her apartment) is "smokin'" and "on fire" is misconstrued initially by Mickey. This could also count as an Innocent Innuendo.
  • Explosive Breeder: The bunny whose babies she wanted Mickey to save.
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: Mickey's view of Minnie's burnt chicken.
  • Heroic Fire Rescue: Mickey believes Minnie's apartment is on fire, but before he can save her, he has to get everyone out of the building. But once he gets to her floor, it turns out that the fire was just her bad cooking.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When he sees the apartment on fire, Mickey tells Goofy to remain calm, all while freaking out and slapping Goofy silly. When Goofy calls the fire department, he himself is not at all calm as he shakes nervously.
  • Instant Waking Skills: All the apartment denizens, presumably asleep, do this when they hear Mickey scream about the building being on fire.
  • Lethal Chef: Minnie makes burnt chicken for Mickey.
  • Mythology Gag: Two early Mickey cartoons "The Fire Fighters" and "Mickey's Fire Brigade" might be viewed as this, with Mickey (and Goofy in the latter cartoon) trying to stop a fire in a building. It is subverted, however, as in this cartoon, neither Mickey nor Goofy are actually firemen here, nor is there any real fire danger here.
  • Oh, Crap!: Mickey has the revelation when he sees the apartment on fire.
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile: Mickey gives one to the camera when he realizes his mistake.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis! / Suddenly Shouting / Speech Bubble: When Mickey informs an elderly goat that the building is on fire but the goat can't hear very well, Mickey tells him via speech bubble, "I said. 'The building. IS ON! FIRE!!!!"
  • Record Needle Scratch: See Double Entendre.
  • Shout-Out: As Mickey saves a mother shark's two babies (in his shorts, no less), an unmistakable "Duh-DA, Duh-DA" sound is heard in the background.
  • Truth in Television: The phone number that Goofy dials is "Triple Zero" (000), which is the emergency phone number in Australia.
  • Vocal Dissonance: The ant tenant is very tiny but has a very deep voice.
  • Volumetric Mouth: To go along with Mickey Suddenly Shouting.
