Recap / Metalocalypse S 3 E 5 Fatherklok

Go To

After an onslaught of paternity suits, Skwisgaar realizes he will never change until he quits the band to find his father who abandoned him before birth.

This episode contains examples of

  • 10-Minute Retirement: Skwisgaar leaves the band and tries to be a normal person, working a regular job at a lumber mill with Tyr. It's only when Skwisgaar and Tyr walk in on Servetta having an orgy and he runs away from it does Skwisgaar remember he's a guitar god and is welcomed back by the adoring public.
  • Animal Motifs: Wolves, possibly as a reference to their role as Odin's messengers in Norse mythology and the fact that they are considered to be one of the most protective fathers in the animal kingdom.
  • Big "NO!": Murderface lets one out when he spies Servetta in an orgy, realizing he'll never have a chance with her.
  • Disappeared Dad: Pretty much the main theme of the episode.
  • Gene Hunting: Skwisgaar tries to use Dethklok's vast resources to find his biological father which is easier said than done since at least seven thousand men claim to have had sex with Serveta at the time Skwisgaar was conceived.
  • Get Out!: Pickles is still bitterly haunted by the last words his father ever spoke to him, to not only leave, but that he belongs in a garbage can.
  • A God Am I: Skwisgaar concludes that he is descended from the gods and doesn't need a father in his life.
  • Glorified Sperm Donor: Any woman Skwisgaar has sex with has to sign a paternity waiver dissolving him of even so much as child support.
  • Good Parents: Nathan's the odd one out for actually having an amicable relationship with his father. Tyr isn't too shabby either.
  • My Parents Are Dead: Toki and Murderface bring up their deceased fathers when Offdensen tries to lecture the group on why they should be more sensitive about Skwisgaar's lack of a father figure.
  • Not So Stoic: Even Offdensen is visibly shocked at Skwisgaar's decision to quit the band
  • Parental Substitute: Murderface tries to become a surrogate father figure to Skwisgaar (while neglecting Pickles who wants the same thing) which is later revealed to be so that he could sleep with Serveta. Nathan demonstrates a more serious willingness to take on this role for the rest of the band though.
  • Parent with New Paramour: Skwisgaar isn't keen on Tyr at first, partially due to feeling cheated out of a reunion with his biological father but he grows more attached to him over time.
  • Primal Scene: The origin story of Skwisgaar becoming a guitar god involves him walking in on his mother having a threesome as a poor young lad.
  • Running Gag: The $5 Hot Topic gift card makes its return as part of the care package given to Skwisgaar's baby mamas as out-of-court settlements.
