Recap / Masked Rider Ep 6

Go To

When a local arcade bully challenges Albee to a video game competition, Albee has Dex stand in for him. However, Count Dregon decides to take this opportunity to launch his next attack, leaving Masked Rider stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Tropes

  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: Count Dregon had his minions tape the battle because the Crimson Creeper was mostly wiping the floor with Masked Rider at the time. Cue the electro-saber and a cooked crayfish.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: When Dex knocks off half of the Crimson Creeper's arm he just annoyedly says "Hey! You declawed me!" and when Masked Rider quips "well, you've always been a clod to me" the monster just says "Very funny" and they resume battle.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Unlike most fictional storylines where an arcade bully is put in his place, he continues to rule the arcade because Dex had to forfeit. There was no rematch. In real life, the bullies usually win.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: Dex is forced to forfeit his match against Henry in order to fight Dregon's monster, forcing him to break his promise to Albee. When he returns to the arcade after the battle, he gives Albee a pep talk on what being a superhero really means.
Dex: My time is not my own. I know Dregon will never give up, and I can never tell when he will launch an attack. I have a responsibility to both Edenoi and Earth. I had to make a difficult choice today.
