Recap / Mash S 8 E 7 Nurse Doctor

Go To

While the 4077th is dealing with a water shortage, a nurse who is studying for medical school is getting tutoring from Father Mulcahy—until things start to get too intimate between them.

  • All Love Is Unrequited: Whatever feelings Gail has for Father Mulcahy are impossible for him to return due to his vows of chastity.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: The other nurses want nothing to do with Gail because she's studying to be a doctor. She's shown eating alone in the mess hall, and even the usually friendly Nurse Kellye makes a cutting comment towards her in the OR.
  • Blatant Lies: Charles is invariably well-washed and clean-shaven throughout the episode, but consistently denies having his own supply of water.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Father Mulcahy's reaction when Hawkeye bursts into hysterics over the story of Gail making a pass at him.
  • Hot for Teacher: Gail has this towards Father Mulcahy as he tutors her for medical school. When Hawkeye takes over as Gail's tutor, he tries to invoke this as well, with less success.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Col. Potter is bewildered when Gail comes to him with her raft of troubles, having no idea that any of this was going on or that she was even studying for medical school in the first place.
  • Naked People Are Funny: When Hawkeye and BJ steal Charles' last bottle of Vichy water while he's in the shower, he tries to chase after them, but quickly dives back into the shower tent after being greeted by a chorus of catcalls and wolf whistles from outside.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: While in surgery, Gail tries to get Charles to use a different kind of suture that will be more comfortable for the patient. It earns her a tongue lashing from Charles, a disdainful comment from Nurse Kellye of all people, and another chewing-out from Margaret after they get out of the OR.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Everyone in camp seems familiar with Gail, despite the character never appearing in a previous episode.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Charles is happy to use Vichy water that is sent to him from home while the rest of the camp suffers from the water shortage.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Potter gives Hawkeye, Margaret and Father Mulcahy a collective one for their treatment of Gail. Later, Margaret gives Gail one for telling Col. Potter that she hates her.
  • Zerg Rush: Klinger finds himself on the receiving end of one in The Tag, when his futile efforts to get everyone to shower in an orderly manner get him stampeded.
