When news reaches the camp that peace talks have stalled, there appears to be no end in sight for The Korean War. Hawkeye snaps and heads over to Panmunjom to "stop the war" himself.
Meanwhile, Margaret finds out that Donald had himself permanently transferred to San Francisco. She contemplates getting a divorce.
Attention, all personnel! The war will end when both sides agree on the following tropes:
- Bavarian Fire Drill: How Hawkeye gets into the peace talks: he claims someone is sick and sent for him, persuading the guards to let him past the outer perimeter and into the compound...where one of the guards happens to remark that one of the generals has a minor ailment that Hawkeye pounces on.
- Bookends: The episode starts and ends with everyone hungover at morning assembly.
- Contrived Coincidence: Major Goss, who delivers General Tomlin's message, just happens to have red hair.
- Double Take: Col. Potter and Radar both do this after Radar hears Hawkeye's made his way to the peace conference.
- Go Through Me: When Major Goss comes to the party to see Hawkeye, Margaret immediately stands in front of him and says, "He's innocent, and you're not taking him no place."
- Hangover Sensitivity: There are plenty of victims of this thanks to the parties that preceded the morning assembly at the beginning and end of the episode, made worse by Radar's whistle.
- Peace Conference: Hawkeye pays an unauthorized visit to the Panmunjom peace talks. In Real Life, these talks did (eventually) bring an end to the hot part of the Korean War. Nowadays, Panmunjom is the site of the Joint Security Area on the Korean DMZ.
- Percussive Therapy: Margaret and Hawkeye run into each other while they're both engaged in this. Margaret is mad at Donald, and Hawkeye is mad that the military upped the number of points needed to go home.
- Pun: Hawkeye's last words before his own hair is dyed red:Hawkeye: We who are about to dye salute you!
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Hawkeye delivers one to the peace delegates for their lack of progress. Bonus points for delivering it while wearing bloodstained scrubs.
- Reassigned to Antarctica: With the twist that the person who gets reassigned - Donald - asked to be reassigned.
- Refuge in Audacity: General Tomlin ensures Hawkeye doesn't face disciplinary action because of how impressed he is that Hawkeye pulled it off.
- Shaped Like Itself:Col. Potter: I assume this has something to do with the earlier incident that took place up there today, uh, earlier.
- Shoot the Messenger: Radar is afraid that Margaret will do this when he delivers some bad news to her, but she doesn't.
- Surprise Party: One is thrown for Hawkeye, with everyone wearing red as he had said earlier that he was tired of seeing everyone wearing green all the time.
