Recap / Martin Mystery S 3 E 50 Return Of The Imaginary Friend

Go To

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Or at least in Teddy's case, beware the cuddly ones. Teddy may seem like a harmless ordinary teddy bear with a cutesy lisp. But when he goes into attack mode, he becomes a fanged, nasty creature.
  • Easily Forgiven: Even though her intents weren't malicious, what Emma did was enable her imaginary friend Teddy to kidnap her friends against their will and transform them into dolls. But at the end of the day, the girls are more than willing to give Emma another chance at rebuilding their friendship.
  • Everybody Has Standards: Emma is awfully lonely ever since her own friends found interests of their own and left her behind. And she truly appreciates that he's making things the way they used to be. But when she feels her friends aren't happy with being kidnapped and turned into dolls against their will, she expresses to Teddy that this isn't the way she wants to make friends again.
  • Friendless Background: Zigzagged. Emma's family used to move around a lot, leading to her imaginary friend Teddy being created by her loneliness. Eventually, her family did settle down, which allowed Emma to make real friends. At least, for a while she did. But as they got older, they started finding different interests, leaving her all alone again.
    • Reconstruction: However, in the climax, when Teddy refuses to go back into his box, Emma uses her tennis skills to get him in there. She lends credit that all that alone time meant she had more time to practice her tennis.
  • If I Can't Have You…: Teddy really wants he and Emma to be friends again, even in the form of granting her wish of gathering her friends and turning them into dolls. But when Emma puts her foot down, Teddy's response is "We're going to be best friends again whether you like it or not..."
  • Irony: Once upon a time, Teddy was Emma's friend, the most loyal imaginary friend you could imagine. But when her family settled after moving so much, Emma quickly made real friends of her own and left Teddy behind. A few years later, Emma's own friends grew apart from her and left her behind the way they did Teddy. The irony is not lost on Martin when she tells her story.
  • Killer Teddy Bear: Teddy is literally a teddy bear accidentally brought to life by Emma, and he's very dangerous despite his size.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: In the climax, how do Martin and Java help Emma defeat Teddy and seal him away? By becoming Emma's friends. With a game of musical chairs.
