Go To

Dead Men Don't do Aerobics is the 2nd episode of season 4 of Married... with Children.

Peg wins the chance to have Jim Jupiter, the hunky host of a local exercise program, visit her at home and give her a personal workout session, but Peg ends up introducing Jim to the world of bon-bon eating and watching trashy daytime TV, which ends up killing him.

Tropes

  • Acceptable Breaks from Reality: Jim is seen leading Peggy through numerous fitness drills while she's wearing high heels. No fitness expert would ever allow a client to wear such shoes while exercising.
  • Asshole Victim: Jim. He was a pompous Jerkass towards Al and an unfaithful boyfriend who cheated on both his on-screen blonde assistants.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Jim seems like a nice guy, but it turns out he was dating both of his assistants and had each thinking she was his only girlfriend.
  • Cat Fight: Jim's two girlfriends get into this upon learning about each other.
  • Chick Magnet: Jim is incredibly popular among women. Marcy and Peg fight with each other over him, Kelly tries to seduce Jim but it doesn't work and he has two blonde assistants who each think she is his (only) girlfriend. Jim rubs this in Al's face that if Al worked out more he'd be popular with women too.
  • Comically Missing the Point:
    • Kelly tries to seduce Jim by showing him a seductive bend-down in her skimpy work-out clothes. Jim claims she's doing it wrong, and Kelly is disappointed Jim didn't get her subliminal message.
    • Jim's two girlfriends are so focused on fighting over him that the fact that he's dead is forgotten.
  • Diet Episode: The third act of this episode is this. Tired of Peg's atrocious "healthy" cooking, Kelly and Bud beg Al to talk Peg into calling off the diet. Al convinces her that the Bundys can live off of junk food and that Jim was different as the Bundys' bodies are far too used to fast foods like greasy burgers and fries while Jim's body is far too used to weight-minimizing foods as they've been eating fast food for too long to let their bodies get used to a rapid change in diet. So Peg agrees to stop the diet and the four Bundys all go out for burgers.
  • Gilligan Cut: Jim insists that he's going to convert Peggy to his way of life. The next scene, six days later, shows that he's been converted to hers.
  • Hollywood Heart Attack: Jim dies of one after two weeks of living like Peg: eating Bon-bons all day and watching Oprah on a couch.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: Peg blows at math.
Peg: There are two things in this house Peggy Bundy doesn't do. Number one: Cook, clean, sew, vacuum, iron and parent. And number two: exercise.
  • Informed Attractiveness: Marcy tells Peggy that she looks "great" after Jim's departure. Which she does, technically, but she looks exactly as she did before, and had what appeared to be one workout session with Jim.
  • Karma Houdini: Although Peg is technically complicit in Jim Jupiter's death, nothing happens to her over it (as per usual).
  • Love Triangle: After Jim dies of a heart attack, his two female blonde hosts fight over whose boyfriend he was.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Al first mistakes Jim and Peggy to be having an affair in front of him.
  • Noodle Incident: Kelly talks about the time their Aunt Pearlie killed Uncle Dave, and Bud thinks it was an accident.
  • Nutritional Nightmare: Breaking off the show's tradition, the Bundys are shown to be eating well but only as long as they keep their food budget to greasy burgers and fast food.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: It turns out Al was right that Jim is having an affair, but not with Peg, but between his two attractive blonde girls.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Peg ends up killing Jim by enrolling him into her sedentary and unhealthy lifestyle of watching Oprah on the couch all day eating Bon-Bons and greasy burgers and fries.
