After defending Farmer Bun's farm from a monster, Mao Mao tries to resist eating Farmer Bun's prized cobbler that was offered, as it would break Mao Mao's Hero's Code, but due to his liking for cobbler, when Adorabat takes some back to the HQ in case Mao Mao changed his mind, he ends up eating the cobbler at night and then tries to get some more. However, when not offering anything, Farmer Bun is extremely protective with the cobbler, but when the monster returns, Mao Mao must face his fear of breaking the Hero's Code over cobbler.

This episode includes examples of:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Farmer Bun, dopey as he may seem, is a fierce enough fighter when defending his cobbler that he’s able to hold his own even against seasoned fighter Mao Mao.
  • Big Ball of Violence: One appears when Badgerclops is wrestling Mao Mao after he uses a lasso to catch him.
  • By-the-Book Cop: Mao Mao follows the Hero's Code book to the letter, even if some of its rules (like the one about not eating cobbler) make no sense. Badgerclops calls him out on this.
  • Dramatic Thunder: Thunder crashes and lightning strikes as Mao Mao finally gives in and eats the cobbler.
  • Dream Deception: Mao Mao does this when Badgerclops catches him in the kitchen about to eat the forbidden cobbler and convinces Badgerclops that he’s his conscience to get him to leave.
  • Dumpster Dive: Even after throwing it in the trashcan, Mao Mao cannot resist eating the cobbler.
  • Eaten Alive: Mao Mao is Swallowed Whole by the monster and Badgerclops presses himself against its belly to talk to him, his body impressed through its Ribcage Stomach.
  • Forbidden Fruit: For unknown reasons, the Mao family's Hero's Code forbids eating cobbler. Mao Mao used to love it as a child, but his family found out and made him destroy it, and he's been resisting it ever since. But now it's allure is too much to bear...
  • Furry Reminder: When Badgerclops and Adorabat catch him scarfing down Farmer Bun’s cobbler supply, Mao Mao hisses at them and starts Running on All Fours.
  • Golden Super Mode: Mao Mao's "Golden Truth Form" that he gains after he accepts that he can be a hero and like cobbler.
  • Great Big Book of Everything: “The Hero’s Code”
Badgerclops: The Hero’s Code is a real book?! I thought you were just making it up as you went along!
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Played for laughs. In a flashback to his Dark and Troubled Past, Mao Mao’s family makes him destroy the cobbler he saved up money to buy out of strict adherence to the Hero’s Code. Apparently young Mao Mao buried it and is seen in the flashback visiting its grave.
  • I Can't Believe It's Not Heroin!: The eponymous sugar berry fever is caught by Mao Mao and is portrayed as an insatiable addiction to sugar berry cobbler.
  • Impact Silhouette: After the monster throws him off when Mao Mao tries to tackle it, he lands in the cobbler and makes a body-shaped hole in it.
  • Implausible Deniability: Mao Mao tries to deny that he ate the cobbler despite some of it still being on his face. Badgerclops and Adorabat barely think twice about it though, and buy his excuse completely.
  • Impossibly Delicious Food: Farmer Bun's cobbler. When Mao Mao attempts to raid his cobbler storage, he talks about him having "the fever"; apparently, he's not the first one to become so infatuated with his cobbler.
  • Instant Wristwatch: When Mao Mao in his Golden Truth Form attacks the monster and gives off a blast of blinding golden light, Badgerclops and Adorabat are shown to suddenly be wearing sunglasses.
  • Let's Meet the Meat: Mao Mao imagines the cobbler coming to life and telling him to eat it.
    • The cobbler in the monster’s stomach also speaks to him and threatens him when he tries to refuse to eat it.
Mao Mao: Out of my way, you tempting illusion!
  • Overly-Nervous Flop Sweat: When Badgerclops discovers that the leftover cobbler is missing, Mao Mao begins to sweat profusely.
  • Power-Up Food: After finally accepting that his family’s code doesn’t necessarily have to be his code, Mao Mao eats all of the cobbler in the monster’s stomach and unlocks his Golden Truth Form.
  • Russian Reversal: "If you won't eat cobbler, then cobbler will eat you!"
  • Sarcasm-Blind: When Mao Mao asks Farmer Bun for some more cobbler at the end of the episode, the farmer’s not too happy about it but Mao Mao doesn’t seem to notice.
Farmer Bun: Sure, go ahead! You ruined my livelihood, you might as well take what little is left!
    Mao Mao: Thank you, friend.
    Farmer Bun: I hate you.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: After Badgerclops uses a bunch of flour and powdered sugar to dust for fingerprints, Adorabat asks him why they didn’t just use those ingredients to make a new cobbler.
  • Sudden Anatomy: Mao Mao, in his golden form, has a visible nose and whiskers.
