Recap / Mao Mao S 1 E 16 Bobo Chan

Go To

Badgerclops discovers an egg that quickly hatches into a small blue dino-like creature that he names Bobo Chan. While he wants to keep her as his own, Mao Mao insists that he release her back into the wild and Adorabat wants to hunt and kill her.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Androcles' Lion: A grown-up Bobo Chan comes to save our heroes from the Sky Pirates.
  • Beard of Sorrow: Badgerclops grows one of these in the three months he's spent wallowing in misery over leaving Bobo and in a local pond.
  • Beware the Cute Ones: Adorabat is the most keen on hunting down Bobo Chan and killing her.
  • Distant Duet: Parodied with Badgerclops depressed and singing to Bobo Chan who he left in the wild, with her singing back but saying nothing but "bobo". Mao Mao is horrified at how pathetic the whole thing is and demands that Adorabat stay inside when she tries to leave the house as if to stop her from seeing something offensive.
  • Funny Background Event: Ramaraffe waking up and emerging from her hiding place, only to see the heroes dealing with a gigantic monster. She immediately turns around.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Looking beyond Mao Mao's sternness over the matter and Adorabat's overzealousness in her attempts to slay Bobo Chan, they are both well within their rights to believe it a bad idea for Badgerclops to adopt a newly-hatched monster as a pet when he has no idea what it can do and be concerned that Bobo Chan's presence in Pureheart Valley would jeopardize the safety of the Sweetie-Pies, concerns that turn out to be well-founded once Bobo Chan gets loose and causes a high level of collateral damage thanks to its ability to spew acid.
  • Naïve Animal Lover: Badgerclops thinks he can keep Bobo Chan as a pet, despite the fact that it spits acid.
  • Now What?: The Sky Pirates have this reaction after their plan to ambush and tie up the Sheriff's Department actually works. They clearly didn't think they'd get that far.
  • Only Sane Man: Between Badgerclops' fawning over his new pet and Adorabat being overly eager to kill said pet, Mao Mao is the only one in the sheriff's department who keeps a cool head over the course of the episode.
  • Suicidal "Gotcha!": The Sky Pirates try to drop Badgerclops off a cliff, but to their amazement (and Badgerclops') he keeps being tossed back up. Turns out the grown-up Bobo Chan was just below the cliff.
  • Why Don't Ya Just Shoot Him?: The Sky Pirates are clearly surprised that Ramaraffe's plan to simply ambush Mao Mao and his team and tie them up worked right out the gate.
