Recap / Mao Mao S 1 E 03 No Shortcuts

Go To

After struggling to keep up, Adorabat gets a cybernetic “Megapeg.” But can fancy new powers make up for experience?

Tropes:

  • Destructive Savior: "Megapeg" nearly destroys the entire village before even defeating the monster, and then causes even more destruction by accident when she tries to assure Mao Mao that she can control her machine.
  • Dramatic Irony: During the episode's opening fight, Adorabat turns the tide of the battle by indirectly tricking the pirates into attacking each other. After it's over, she sighs that she didn't help at all. (Though she later realizes she did at the end of the episode.)
  • Here We Go Again!: Defied. After Adorabat offers to turn in her megapeg and Mao Mao tells Adorabat that he already considers her a hero, when she asks if this means she can keep her megapeg, Mao Mao would agree... but aw! He already stepped on it, see?!
  • Lost Food Grievance: Badgerclops is fine with the Megapeg, right up until it accidentally destroys his burger.
Badgerclops: That's it, we have to get rid of that awful machine.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Adorabat's Mega Mech accidentally causes King Snugglemagne's hairdresser to screw up his mane and he imprisons the hairdresser for it. And this is despite the fact that Snugglemane even acknowledges that it was Adorabat's fault.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Adorabat did not have enough time to practice using her Mega Mech before fighting the monster, so she ends up struggling to use it during the battle and almost destroys the entire village.
  • Only Sane Man: This episode, it's Mao Mao who acts as the voice of reason to the zany antics and poor judgment of Adorabat and Badgerclops.
  • Sweet and Sour Grapes: Hilariously subverted. After Adorabat acts as a Destructive Savior all episode due to her "Megapeg," after Adorabat apologizes and relinquishes her megapeg by promising to become a hero through time and experience, when Mao Mao acknowledges that she saved the day by using prior experience so that means she's already a hero in his book, when she joyfully asks if this means she can keep the megapeg anyway, Mao Mao "accidentally" crushes it with his foot.
  • A Tragedy of Impulsiveness: Adorabat wants to become a strong hero just like Mao Mao and Badgerclops so badly that she wants to take shortcuts and rush blindly into danger.
