I'm not your boyfriend ... It'll be dead by morning.

Roger tells Don of a potential new client, Sunkist. They inform Ted prior to their partners' meeting and Ted loses his temper because he and Jim have been preparing a proposal to land Ocean Spray, which would present a conflict.

Sally and her friend, Julie, are staying with Don and Megan in order to attend a Model United Nations meeting in Midtown. In the lobby they meet the Rosens' son, Mitchell. Megan learns that Mitchell has dropped out of college and has been classified as 1-A, making him eligible for the military draft. Don then discusses Mitchell's situation at a client dinner that evening with Chevy, infuriating Ted. The next morning, Don explains why he did it and Ted informs Don of a connection he has in the Air National Guard that can help with Mitchell's situation, but only agrees to help if Don drops Sunkist. Don tries to contact Arnold and gets Sylvia instead, who is overjoyed that Don has intervened.

Peggy has a rat in her apartment. It gets caught in a trap but is still alive. She calls Stan for help but he refuses. By the end of the episode, Peggy has got a cat.

Julie informs Sally that she wrote a love letter to Mitchell, signed Sally's name, then slipped it under door of the Rosens' apartment. Sally goes back to the building and receives keys for the apartment building from Jonesy the doorman. Sally goes to the Rosens' apartment to retrieve the letter but sees Don and Sylvia having sex. She runs from the room, but not before they realise she's seen them. Later that night Don returns to his apartment, and Arnold and Mitchell drop in to thank Don. Sally storms off to her room. Sally locks the door and Don tries to explain that Sylvia was upset and he was only trying to comfort her, adding that the situation is "complicated." Don asks Sally if she understands and goes off to bed.

Meanwhile, Pete's mother's dementia causes her to mistake Peggy for Trudy. She also implies that she is on intimate terms with her male nurse, Manolo. Later, she makes this very clear to Pete. Wanting to fire Manolo for this, Pete calls Bob Benson (who recommended Manolo) to his office. Bob assures Pete that Manolo would not be on intimate terms with Mrs Campbell as he is not interested on women; he then makes a subtle advance at Pete, which is rebuffed.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Broken Pedestal: Don completely ruins his relationship with Sally after she catches him having sex with Sylvia.
  • Call-Back: Stan turns down going to Peggy's apartment to help her with her rat problem by saying "Tuesday morning's great", their code phrase that they're with other people. Peggy later gets a cat, which harks back to her mother's relationship advice in "At the Codfish Ball".
  • Incompatible Orientation: Bob subtly comes onto Pete. Pete gently turns him down.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Don and Sylvia both react with horror after they get caught by Sally.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Pete's mom, Dot, to Pete after he tells her that he has to fire Manolo:
Dot: You were a sour little boy. And you're a sour little man. How could I expect you to be understanding? You've always been unlovable.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Why does Stan, who presumably isn't Jewish (if he were, he would've been identified as such before now), have a poster of Moshe Dayan on his bedroom wall?
  • Squick: Pete gets grossed out when Dot outright states that Manolo, her nurse, has been sleeping with her.
  • Wham Episode: Sally finds Don and Sylvia having sex after he saved her son from the draft. Oh, the therapy bills...
