Epilogue

The Guardian gives us one last look at every remaining loose end and future problem for our heroes to deal with...

Tropes that appear in this Chapter:

  • Adaptation Deviation: Gravity Falls ended with Bill Cipher defeated for good, but here he lives past his demise.
  • Ambiguous Situation:
    • Didn't the Alchemist take blood samples of Luz, Willow, Nina, Donna, and Cross? And there are five tubes with specimens inside, so that means... he's cloned them!?
    • During the meeting between Maleficent's Council of Villains at Hollow Bastion, the narration indicates that Ursula is attending in her Hecate disguise, with it not being made clear if Hook and Jafar (and by extension, Maleficent and Oogie Boogie) think they're dealing with Hecate or whether they're aware she's actually Ursula.
    • Hook is shown as a member of both Bloody Mary's group consisting of the two of them and Facilier and Maleficent's Council of Villains, leaving it unclear if he's serving both organizations simultaneously or is manipulating one on the other's orders.
  • Back for the Finale: Numerous characters, mostly antagonists, show up to establish their roles next season. Special mention goes to the Amphibia cast, as they haven't been seen in the main storyline in ages.
  • Back from the Dead: Bloody Mary finally fulfills her agreement with Grimhilde and Facilier to restore the latter's body.
  • Bad Girl Song
  • Big Bad Ensemble: The chapter lines up who the majority of villains Book 3 will have: the Archangels, Bloody Mary's group (with Dr. Facilier replacing Grimhilde) and the Collector, Maleficent, the Queen of Hearts, Jafar, Ursula, Abel/Eris/Roo, and the Weird Sisters/Fates.
  • Big Damn Reunion: Luz and Gus P. are floored by the surprise appearance of Anne, Sprig, and Terri during the Noceda's housewarming party, with Sasha, Polly, and Anne's parents in tow. Sadly, the joy is hampered as Anne prepares to tell them, Star, Jake, and Randy what happened to Marcy.
  • The Bus Came Back: Quite a lot of characters make their returns here.
    • The Collector, who was last seen in "So IFWOT?", but in present time hasn't shown up since "Escape from Gatesfield".
    • Leo, who was last seen in "Brooken House".
    • Raphael, who had only been seen in "Fallen Angel".
    • Jafar, who made his LCU present day debut in "Witches in Wonderland" but was seen in a flashback in "Highway to Mel".
    • Terri, who last appeared in "Viva Last Vegans!"
  • But Now I Must Go:
    • Grimhilde turns down Bloody Mary's offer to continue working with her, Hook, and Facilier, wanting to finally be in control of her own life for once.
    • Feeling uncertain about her future now more than ever due to her being branded, Zee leaves the Boiling Isles and travels to Inwell Isles to get her mind off things, and of course to be with Emily.
  • Call-Back:
  • Continuity Nod: Gus P. recognizes Terri as the scientist who saved him in Vegas.
  • Everyone Meets Everyone: Luz meets Terri, who's already met Anne, Sprig, Polly, Sasha, Oum, and Bee, the latter four she and Gus P. can meet and introduce to their human friends and allies now.
  • Faking the Dead: Bloody Mary staged everything in her fight with Belos including her death to stall for time so Grimhilde could head to the Titan's skull and claim the Collector's mirror.
  • Fanservice: The final scene shows Emily wearing a short white gown for beach attire while Zee shows up in her swimsuit (a blue bikini with her top half concealed by a t-shirt). Nothing is said about whether or not Cups and Mugs were wearing their own beachwear from "The Obligatory Beach Day!"
  • Fate Worse than Death: According to the Guardian, Leo wishes that he were dead rather than working for Hotep Koff.
  • The Ghost:
    • After seeing Anne, Sprig, and Sasha, Luz asks if Marcy's with them. Anne winces and begins to explain what happened to her girlfriend.
    • The rest of the Drakescale family are mentioned when Emily asks where they are and Zee tells her that she came to the Inwell Isles alone.
  • Glomp: Luz and Anne, and Emily to Zee, when they each reunite with each other.
  • Grand Finale: This is the official end to to Book 2: "Two Worlds, One Family".
  • Greater-Scope Villain: There's no denying it: Abel/Eris and the Weird Sisters/Fates truly did play Belos for a fool in order to carry out their own agenda, which is to cause the destruction of the Boiling Isles involving the yellow-eyed winged beast.
  • I Choose to Stay:
    • Both Hook and Dr. Facilier decide to continue working with Bloody M to gain what they want with her help, as opposed to Grimhilde, who finally leaves to make a new life.
    • Once she reunites with Emily, Zee tells her that she's staying on the Inwell Isles to get away from the Boiling Isles for a while like the illusionist is. And after thinking things over, she's decided that she wants to be with Emily, a decision she's flattered by.
  • Karma Houdini: Bloody Mary, Angel, Hotep Koff, Prof. Cuddlebuns, and Roo are all active and scheming with the heroes none the wiser that they're plotting against them. Downplayed for the Alchemist and Hibari as they's behind bars...at least, for now.
  • Last Episode, New Character: Councilor Obron, Emperor Pupa and the rest of his followers, and Oogie Boogie.
  • Love Epiphany: Even more strongly implied than the last chapter. While having other reasons for journeying to Inwell Isles, Zee admits to Emily that she wanted to be with her during their time away from the Boiling Isles. It gives the idea that Zee realized she doesn't just have a crush on Emily; she's fallen in love with her.
  • Maybe Ever After: The book ends with Emily and Zee vowing to stay together in order to figure out their futures. They still don't hook up, so whether they'll officially become a couple or not is left for the new story to decide.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Councilor Obron and Emperor Pupa are based on the concept of Emperor Belos being the Evil Chancellor to insectoid rulers.
    • Maleficent forms a gathering consisting of Hook, Ursula, Jafar, and who is implied to be Oogie Boogie.
  • Once More, with Clarity: Bloody M gave Dr. Facilier his body and powers back for helping Grimhilde help her with her plans.
  • Out of Focus: Aside from Luz, Gus P, Camila, and Emily, the rest of the main cast is absent since the former two are now staying in Gravity Falls with their parents and the latter is now living on a different Titan.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Even if Osran is dead, the pain he's left on Zee is still there, as her sigil proves. That's why she left the Isles, because staying there reminds her of what he did and leaves her feeling purposeless.
  • The Reveal:
    • Bloody Mary and Grimhilde faked the latter's abandonment and the former's death by Belos' hand. The Mary who fought Belos wasn't even real: it was a reflection meant to distract Belos so Mary's group could claim the Collector's mirror, with Mary planning to use them to open the Gates of Hell.
      • Hook's been working with Mary and Grimhilde so he can bring Smee back to life.
    • Leo is now serving Hotep Koff, who plans on recreating the Torso Villa and ruling it as a pharaoh.
    • Adrian's been kidnapped by Prof. Cuddlebuns, who's lobotomized Eyepatch to be his mindless servant.
    • Angel captured Powers and Trigger and stole Ford's journals from them, planning to use them to convince agents from other governments help her to annihilate all of magickind.
    • Raphael managed to escape from the destruction of Purgatory.
    • Aoi and Aka are overseeing a project for the Alchemist that will help him and Hibari escape from prison.
    • Bill's been saved from death by Chernabog and his servant.
    • Abel is actually Eris, who's also Eve and Roo, and she's working with the Weird Sisters to ensure the future they showed Belos.
    • The Boonchuys, Plantars, and Sasha evaded capture by the Huntsman and have met up with Terri.
    • Emily has settled down on Inwell Isles with Cups, Mugs, and Grandpa Kettle.
  • Running Gagged: Gus P. finally stops calling Las Vegas "Last Vegans".
  • Sequel Hook:
    • Now that Angel's got the journals and agents from different governments backing her up, she has the knowledge and resources to declare an interdimensional war on magickind.
    • It looks like the Alchemist has succeeded in making clones from the blood of the witches he captured. Did he mutate them, give them new kinds of abilities?
    • Maleficent appears to be putting together a team of villains.
    • Sora, Riku, and Kairi are looking about ready to be brought over to LCU-Earth to back up the heroes.
    • Roo's setting up everything in order to bring her vision to life and eradicate life in the Demon Realm.
    • Now that Luz has reunited with Anne, she, Star, Jake, and Randy prepare themselves for the news of Andrias' plans to invade Earth. Cue the movie trailer music.
    • Zee moving to Inwell Isles with Emily, the Holders, and Hendrick with Maleficent and Emily's half-sister keeping tabs on the girls sounds like a pretty good story of its own. (Beat) Not even bothering to hide this one...
  • Shout-Out:
    • Sora, Riku, and Kairi are seen in another world, talking about how they should travel to other worlds.
    • The scene with the Alchemist's forces could indirectly bring to mind the ending of the Lab Rats special, "You Posted What!?!"
    • Emily and Zee perform "Loser Baby", reworded to reflect how Emily sees the Drakescale girl.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Unlike canon-Gravity Falls, Bill Cipher is confirmed to have survived his death thanks to Chernabog saving him.
  • Spinoff Sendoff: The final scene gives a farewell to Emily and Zee, both of whom will now be leaving the main series to be the stars of their own; LC Presents: Brimstones and Broomsticks.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Everything involving the villains qualifies from a reader's view. In-universe, this would be the appropriate responses to Leo working for Hotep Koff, Adrian being forced to work for Cuddlebuns, and Bill being punished by Chernabog.
  • The Un-Reveal:
    • How did the Archangels get pass the Shadows that captured Powers and Trigger?
    • How is Oogie Boogie alive again?
    • Why is Roo doing any of what she's doing? What does she have to gain from the ruination of the Boiling Isles?
    • How did the Boonchuys, Plantars, and Sasha escape from the Huntsman? Seeing as it's been confirmed a month has passed since that encounter, it begs the question of what they've been doing and how they met Terri within that timeframe.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: The last scene shows Maleficent watching Emily and Zee together, continuing and confirming her interest in one or both of them in "Battle of the Titans".
  • Wham Line:
    • When the Collector asks Mary what games she wants to play, she says "Opening the Gates of Hell".
    • After meeting up with Emily, Zee explains to her that she's not just visiting her; she's staying on the Inwell Isles.
  • Wham Shot:
    • As Hook waits on his ship, he sees Bloody Mary and Grimhilde board, the latter holding the Collector's mirror.
    • Bloody M restoring Dr. Facilier to flesh and blood.
    • Angel first appears walking through a hallway before passing an angry Powers and Trigger in a cell.
    • Angel presents some familiar looking books to the agents meeting with her, and they all have a six-fingered hand symbol.
    • Aoi and Aka are seen monitoring five water filled tubes for their boss.
    • Three familiar heroes are shown in another realm talking about traveling beyond their world.
    • Bill Cipher is shown to be alive, and is now at the mercy of Chernabog for his failure...
    • Hook, Jafar, and Ursula show up in Avalon (now known as Hollow Bastion) and see a pair of dice roll in front of them as laughter echoes all around them.
    • Eris disappears in black smoke, then reappears... as Abel Reisender, who meets with the Weird Sisters and asks if the future remains unchanged. The same future they showed Belos...
    • Luz goes to welcome her first guest in her new home and opens the door to see...Anne, her family, Sasha, and Terri! Engage Big Damn Reunion!!!
    • Emily busies herself relaxing on the beach when a shadow falls over her. She pulls down her sunglasses to complain, and to her surprise, sees Zee.
    • As Emily and Zee finish their musical number, Maleficent is seen watching them from afar with a smile. Not a reassuring way to end the season and prepare for the spinoff.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Hendrick isn't seen on Inwell Isles anywhere. He was probably just doing something else while Emily was relaxing on the beach.
