In this Spooky Somhaim Spooktacular, everyone in the Owl House shares stories and tales worthy of a night of horror while the ghosts are out in the night.

Tropes that appear in this Chapter:

  • Abusive Parents: Dr. Frankenstein to his monster, who Elizabeth saw as her child.
  • Actor Allusion: Near the end of the chapter, King decides that Somhaim is about pure evil and starts laughing. Didn't Stan Pines do the same thing?
  • Adaptational Explanation: Unlike canon, the story explains how Eda obtained Hooty in the Luz Clawthorne Saga. The Owl House was actually Baba Yaga's house and she gave it to Eda after she became a wild witch, which Baba inspired her to be.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Eda and Hooty both called Baba Yaga "Babi".
  • Alternate Universe: Like the last one-shot; it features a Call-Back to "The Rescue", but takes place in the fall while the aforementioned chapter is set in summer. There's also the fact that Luz and Amity are confirmed to have gotten back together, while the chapter left the fate of their relationship ambiguous.
  • Back from the Dead: Dr. Frankenstein killed Elizabeth and revived her as another monster.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Scratch calls Hooty more annoying than Molly. Given how much of an optimistic Genki Girl Molly is, to Scratch, it's actually one for the history books.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • The monster returns to Frankenstein's lab to knock him out and give the Bride a chance to escape, letting the mob after him finish him off to buy her time to escape.
    • Camila shows up right before Baba can eat the girls and proceeds to back her into a corner, giving Amity an opening to banish her.
  • Big Damn Reunion: Luz gets one with both Camila and Puck, who shares it with Amity. Puck also reveals his dying gave him the chance to reunite with Wendy Darling.
  • Birds of a Feather: Amity sympathizes with Dr. Bride after hearing her story as both of them were betrayed by people they looked up to.
  • Body Horror: Thanks to Dr. Frankenstein, Elizabeth (now the Bride of Frankenstein) has pale skin and stiches all over her body, showing he replaced several body parts which he claims are "improvements".
  • Bottle Episode: Aside from Hooty in the ghost bar, the scene in the human realm and Prof. Snope's cameo, the one-shot's focus on Somhaim takes place at the Owl House.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Hooty shouts at the author to be quiet in the intro.
  • Breather Episode: The story's filler meant to be a break from the main story, especially after the ending of Book 1.
  • Call-Back:
    • Everyone in the Owl House, especially the girls, have lingering distrust towards Lilith, leading off from the last few chapters of Book 1.
    • Luz mentions Amity not being in contact with her family since the events of "The Rescue" and the Clawthornes taking her in. Luz also brings up not apologizing to Puck when she had the chance.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Possessing Hooty, Baba Yaga knocks aside Eda, King and Lilith before wrapping up Luz and Amity using Hooty's neck. Baba's soon on the receiving end at Camila's hands.
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • Dr. Bride was betrayed by Dr. Frankenstein after she freed his monster, being killed by him and reborn as a counterpart of the monster.
    • 25 years ago, Prof. Snope was part of a group who attempted to exorcise the Inner Demon from the Forest of Fear. Sadly, they failed and he was the only one who escaped before he was turned into a tree. He's since had to live with the guilt but refuses to let the Inner Demon win.
  • Declaration of Protection: Following her victory over Baba Yaga, Eda promises baby Luz as she heals a scratch on her arm that she'll never let anyone or anything hurt her. It's a shame she couldn't keep that promise...
  • Demonic Possession: Baba Yaga possesses Hooty so she'll be able to eat Luz and Amity.
  • Desecrating the Dead: After bringing a dog back to life, Victor convinces Elizabeth to take it a step further by creating a being composed of the body parts of dead people, which they robbed graveyards for.
  • Dr. Jerk: Victor is this in spades; he builds a monster out of dead people parts, abuses said monster, kills Elizabeth when she frees their creation only to experiment on her and then bring her back to life.
  • Eats Babies: Baba Yaga, who was wanted by the Emperor's Coven for eating children, tried to eat Luz when she was a baby.
  • The End... Or Is It?: The one-shot ends on the word End...?
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Frankenstein scoffs at Elizabeth's claims that their monster is anything but and is angered that she let it escape so he couldn't abuse it anymore.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Puck ultimately accepts his death as he not only helped save Luz and her family, but now he's together with Wendy again in the afterlife.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Nobody catches the look of guilt Lilith sports from seeing Camila's ghost or her turning away.
  • Framing Device: The entirety of Somhaim is confirmed by Word of God to be this, as the focus is more on each of the stories the main cast tells.
  • Frankenstein's Monster: Turns out to have existed and still does exist.
  • The Ghost: Molly McGee is mentioned by Scratch and Amity mentions her family.
  • Grave Robbing: The monster's body parts were all looted from local graveyards by Elizabeth and Victor.
  • Halloween Episode: Actually it's Somhaim, the Boiling Isles equivalent.
  • Heroic Vow: Prof. Snope makes one to keep the Inner Demon from coming after his students, especially Amity, again.
  • If Only You Knew: Everyone thinks Dr. Frankenstein is dead when he's not and don't know that they've met Little Shelley.
  • Lampshade Hanging:
    • When questioned by Lilth, Eda confirms she never faced the Inner Demon, either because her curse prevents him from entering her mindscape or because of her spending time in the human realm as a young adult.
    • When getting pelted by Camila's chanclas, Baba questions how they're hurting her and why she feels pain despite being a ghost.
  • Laughing Mad: Frankenstein as he maniacally gloats to his Bride that he now owns her for life.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: King never knew about Baba Yaga trying to take Luz and Eda killing her in response, having attributed the mess he saw the living room in being a result of Baby Luz throwing a tantrum.
  • Mama Bear:
    • Elizabeth could see the child Frankenstein's monster actually was and became protective of him, going as far as to set him free and invoke Victor's wrath on herself.
    • Regardless of her friendship with Baba Yaga and the things she did for her, Eda refused to give her Luz as repayment for those deeds, going as far as to kill Baba for trying to take Luz from her.
    • When facing down Baba, Camila tells her to stay away from her daughter and her girlfriend.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Elizabeth was quick to realize that she helped a madman play God and that he didn't care that he abused their creation.
  • My Greatest Failure: Sheldon Snope has spent the last 25 years regretting leaving his friends behind in the Forest of Fear.
  • My Greatest Second Chance:
    • Dr. Bride spent the rest of her life after escaping Frankenstein continuing her scientific work, vowing to never abuse it like he did.
    • Prof. Snope refuses to let history repeat and vows to protect his students from the Inner Demon.
  • Mythology Gag: Luz's costume is based on a bat while Amity's is a cat, referencing the symbols they use on their tamagotchis in "Eclipse Lake".
  • Noodle Incident: Eda once tried getting into the House of Mouse and somehow child-death was tangentially related.
  • Oh, Crap!: Eda's reaction upon learning Baba Yaga's returned to the mortal world.
  • Out of Focus: Though present in the previous one-shot, Willow, Gus, Boscha and Skara are absent in this one.
  • Reincarnation: Baba Yaga mentions she was offered this as a choice along with returning to the world of the living and regrets not taking it after Amity banishes her back to the spirit world.
  • The Reveal: The stories are all canon to the series, unlike the events of the Framing Device.
    • Dr. Bride, once known as Elizabeth Lavenza, grew up with and became the assistant of Dr. Victor Frankenstein, but turned on him after she freed his monster. She was then killed and revived as the Bride of Frankenstein but escaped when the monster held Victor hostage and led an angry mob chasing him away. Eventually, Elizabeth met Eda and she led her to the Boiling Isles.
      • Victor and the monster are alive and the former is currently working for Director Gates.
    • The Inner Demon obtained his immortality by killing witchlings in a ritual, the area he performed it in becoming the Forest of Fear. 25 years ago, Professor Snope was part of a group who attempted to stop him but they failed and he was the only one who escaped.
    • Eda met Baba Yaga (who was an infamous wild witch known for eating children) right after she saw the blank signup sheet and she inspired Eda ti become a wild witch. Baba left her the Owl House and Hooty in exchange for a favor and when they met again, Eda killed Baba when she tried to claim baby Luz.
  • Shipper on Deck: Puck manages to make Wendy a fan of "Lumity".
Wendy: You were right, those two are really cute together.
    Puck: Yeah, they really are.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Surprisingly Happy Ending: Although everything that happened at the end of the previous season plus all the revalations here were very depressing, the one-shot ends with the Clawthornes, Amity, Camila, Puck and Wendy enjoyng a movie together after the spirits are invited to enjoy the rest of the holiday with the Owl House crew.
  • Take That!: Eda had once tried getting into the House of Mouse, only to be barred entry because she didn't "fit their brand", an obvious jab of the alleged reason why Disney limited The Owl House's runtime.
  • Tempting Fate: Eda voices her relief that she doesn't have to worry about Baba Yaga anymore... right as her spirit possesses Hooty.
  • The Un-Reveal: How Dr. Frankenstein is still alive and the Inner Demon's human identity are left unknown for the time being.
  • Would Hurt a Child:
    • The Inner Demon was already established to fall into this, but the fact that he murdered a group of witchlings to gain immortality officially makes him Beyond Redemption.
    • Baba Yaga was infamous and wanted for eating children and babies.
