Chapter 6: A Lovely Night For an Auction

The Triton Resort is having a special auction as Loona is surprised by the very special guests showing up...

Tropes that appear in this Chapter:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Striker meets Moxxie before I.M.P. is formed, and Lilith Morningstar is introduced before she goes missing.
  • Adaptational Explanation: Charlie got the idea of opening the Happy Hotel from her trip to the Triton Resort.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Because he has a son, Striker is more friendly and his hatred of Demon royalty is toned down. While he hates working for royals, he's willing to work for them to provide for Douglas.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents:
  • Ambiguous Situation: How sincere is Chazz being when he was apologizing to Moxxie?
  • Bachelor Auction: The Triton Resort puts on a "stud auction" in order to raise funds for repairs and improvements. Blitz, Moxxie (who doesn't get a choice), Chazz, Striker, Ace, and Gaston participate, and all but the latter are bought with Blitz getting an old lady named Grandick, Moxxie getting Penzi, Chazz and Striker going on a double date with Gremory and Verosika, and Ace getting Charlie courtesy of her mother.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Margaret shouts one and immediately covers her mouth after seeing a woman actually bid on Moxxie.
  • Blatant Lies:
    • Charlie poorly tries to deny that she got dumped a week ago to Stolas' family.
    • When Male Lute catches Adam spying on Queen Lilith, he claims that he's watching a movie.
  • Bridal Carry: Tex uses this to bring Loona to the staff infirmary so her injuries from Lizzie can be treated.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Lizzie actually thinks she can torture Loona in front of Stolas, then attacks Stolas for stopping her, then demand Gaap to kick them out of the Triton Resort. Things naturally don't end well for her.
  • Call-Forward: Loona gets Tex hired as Verosika's bodyguard.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: After pissing off McWire, Loona is very quickly curb-stomped by the Sinner and is only saved through the intervention of Stolas.
  • Didn't See That Coming:
    • Margaret is floored when Penzi bids on Moxxie at the stud auction, not believing anyone would actually pay to go on a date with him.
    • Loona, Stolas, and Verosika are speechless when they find out Blitz is the last bachelor in the auction.
    • Striker is taken aback when Charlie acts far more cordial than he'd expect from a royal.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: After the day they've had, Clara and Mick have a few drinks to forget their painful pasts.
  • Dumped via Text Message: Razzle and Dazzle say that the reason Lilith brought Charlie to the auction was because her ex broke up with her this way.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Gaap is earnestly disgusted that Stolas cheated on his wife as debauchery is just as frowned upon in Hell.
  • Everyone Can See It: Verosika catches how shy Loona's acting around Vortex and connects the dots instantly.
  • Evil Is Petty: In addition to giving Moxxie a Sadistic Choice, Margaret wanted him to be humiliated when no one bid for him in the stud auction.
  • Fantastic Racism: The chapter reminds readers that hellhounds are very low on Hell's pecking order. Lizzie demeans and verbally abuses Tex during their date while not hesitating to kill Loona for coming to his defense. Meanwhile, Gaap tells Stella that he sees Margaret as his "mutt slut", for her loyalty to him makes her a useful pawn.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • Moxxie gets hit by the good kind: instead of being rejected during the auction, Penzi bids 350 souls on him, which is more of a hit to Margaret.
    • For her behavior and acting out of line, Lizzie gets banned from the Triton Resort.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Gaap's not as big on exchanging information as Stella is, since he dismisses telling her about the women Stolas previously met at his resort.
  • Noodle Incident: Octavia once begged her father to take her to a McBurger place: just one bite from one of their burgers left her with food poisoning.
  • Now You Tell Me: Loona is stunned to hear that Tex and Kajedo are in an open relationship and are find with each other dating other people, because that means Loona had a shot with them (at the moment Tex) all along.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Moxxie is not happy to see Chazz at the stud auction.
    • Amaroq is shocked to see Cruella's mark on a book she finds in Sonya's office, as that means Sonya's working with Cruella.
  • One-Steve Limit: Diana, Clara's half-sister, shares her first name with Donna's mother, Diana Masterskull.
  • Papa Wolf: Stolas makes his unhappiness with Octavia having to go on her first date known and stoops to sabotaging it by any means necessary. When it's over, he settles for warning Cray that he better not hurt Octavia or else he'll be dealing with him, returning to his usual cheerful self once it's done.
  • Pet the Dog: After standing up to McWire in Tex's defense, Loona expects Margaret to fire her. Instead, Margaret praises her for what she did as she feels Lizzie should've gotten banned ages ago.
  • The Reveal:
    • Octavia and Clara are friends with Charlie Morningstar.
    • Clara's mother is Marchiosias and she has a half-sister named Diana, whom Charlie mistakes Loona for.
    • Donna Crane was sent to Hell, and she taught Mick how to play piano.
    • Tex grew up in a hellhound group home and sends them money as a way to provide for them.
    • Mick is hiding an angelic weapon induced wound under his mask.
    • Stella had Gaap hire Blitz to be in the auction in order to expose Stolas' affair with him, which didn't work.
    • Vaggie is quickly going through her training as an Exorcist.
    • Sonya is in league with Cruella.
  • Sadistic Choice: Margaret gives Moxxie one: participate in the stud auction to pay for the damages caused during the hostage situation or Loona gets fired from the resort. Moxxie wastes no time calling Margaret evil for this, but Margaret later confesses that she was bluffing all along.
  • Sequel Hook:
    • Her first plan may have failed, but Stella's not done trying to expose Stolas' infidelity with Blitz.
    • After spending the day at the Triton, Charlie becomes inspired to start her own hotel where she can help people.
    • Because of Gaston, Cruella is about to learn where Loona is.
    • Amaroq confirms her suspicions of Sonya, but gets caught by the doctor and drugged into unconsciousness.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Small Name, Big Ego:
    • Lizzie McWire believes she deserves to have the same status as Overlords like the Vees and that the Hellborns exist just to be the playthings of Sinners like her, but is still low in Hell's pecking order, as she is reminded by Stolas and Gaap.
    • Gaston has become this due to his Sinner form making him look like a skinny nerd, and he gets laughed out of the stud auction when the women refuse to bid on him.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Averted. Feeling bad for Moxxie when no one bids on him, Loona and Bella prepare to do so only for Penzi to pay before they get a chance.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Or die again. Lizzie is attacked by Stolas for electrocuting Loona and her first instinct is to attack him instead. She clearly hasn't heard of the Ars Goetia, so him curb-stomping her is a given.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: Loona being shocked by Charlie and Lilith's arrival to the resort was shown in the series' trailer.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Vaggie is revealed to have gotten her left eye healed. Considering she's in Heaven, it was likely restored by Adam and Male Lute.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: In a sense, it's a gorier take on The Looney Tunes Show episode, "Eligible Bachelors". The first portion of the chapter starts with a Bachelor Auction which the main male protagonists partake in, one of them ends up going on a date with an old woman who was a World War II veteran and a member of a Women's Army Corp and was tasked with keeping Nazis from stealing France's art in the final days of the war.
