Recap / Lunaverse S 1 T 1 W 1 An Awkward Day

Go To

It's early morning in Roam, capitol of Cavallia, and Princess Cadenza's post-nookie morning is interrupted by her guard and heads of state bursting into her bedroom to inform her there's a problem: The Equestrian army is massing on their border. Puzzled and alarmed, Cadenza makes her way to said border, to find out what's going on. The captain of the Equestrian forces, one Pine Needle, tells her he has no idea what's going, save that he's just got orders to hold the border, but he'd rather not attack. Now really concerned, Cadenza makes her way to Canterlot (though not before destroying the bridge at the Cavallia-Equestria border, so as to stall Needle's forces from harming Cavallian troops).

On arrival, Cadenza finds the castle in chaos, and is led to the throne room, where she finds Princess Luna dealing with several ambassadors yelling at her all at once. Seems Equestria's army is also at the borders of the Griffon Kingdoms, Pfedereich and Cavallia's less-than-friendly neighbour Zaldia... and Princess Luna isn't responsible. As the Zaldian and Griffon ambassadors take Cadenza's presence first as sign of collusion and then support of them, the Royal Guard appear with the true cause of the day's mayhem, Luna's major-domo Quick Fix. The poor, nervous bastard stammers his way through an explanation.

See, Quick Fix felt that Luna making herself completely incommunicado when she wanted to, since her bedroom has no easy means of access, was dangerous, especially in event of a crisis, and actions speak louder than words, so he arranged a sort of coup while Luna was asleep, posting troops at the borders of Pferderich, the Griffon Kingdoms, Zaldia and Cabelleria.

... ah. Oh dear.

Quick Fix realizes he has made something of a flamingo-up note . Cadenza, realizing that the day's insanity has, for her, been nothing more than the result of a simple mistake in spelling, starts laughing her guts out, much to the irritation of the ambassadors, until Luna has her taken to another room.

Later, once everything's over and Quick Fix has been fired (several times over), Cadenza and Luna share a relaxing drink and discuss the political fallout that's going to occur from the pony's well-meaning but utterly boneheaded decision. As reparations go, Cadenza only has one demand of Luna:

Install some freaking stairs.

Tropes:

  • A Day in the Limelight: For Princess Cadence, set about three hundred years before the main events of the Lunaverse, showing her as a full-grown adult and ruler of Cavallia.
  • Dope Slap: Luna unleashes one on Quick Fix. She's pulling her kick, so that it just hurts slightly rather than sending him flying.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Quick Fix's contention was that Luna can't be reached when in her bedroom, which can only be accessed via a window or teleportation, and sometimes not even then since Luna can seal it off. Fix's solution is overkill, but the point that a head of state needs to be readily accessible in case of disaster is a valid one.
  • Epic Fail: Quick Fix managed to mis-spell Cabelleria (pony Spain) as Cavallia (pony Italy) and didn't notice.
  • Just Following Orders: Pine Needle. His orders are to take the Equestria-Cavallia border, and he'll follow them, even if it might (okay, will) lead to inevitable loss of life when the highly trained Equestrian military goes up against the much less trained, much less disciplined Cavallian military. He doesn't like the orders, and he'd rather not follow them, but he will.
  • Narm: In-universe. When Cadenza realizes her day was ruined because of a spelling error, she gets a case of the giggles, and the attempts of the ambassadors to get her to stop laughing just makes it worse, because they're taking the whole thing so seriously.
  • Nervous Wreck: Poor, stupid Quick Fix. It's not hard to blame him, though, given he caused a massive diplomatic snafu, the damage for which lasts for several hundred years after the events of the day.
  • Stunned Silence: Cadenza finds several ambassadors yelling at Luna. When she mentions there's troops on her border as well, they all momentarily stop.
