The gang prepares for battle with the Garuda, and things get complicated.
- Bad Boss: After one of its berserker minions returns to its lair missing an eye, the Garuda gouges the remaining eye out with its talons.
- Buried in a Pile of Corpses: Kenzi tells Bo she had to hide under the Ash's dead guards and wait until the Garuda's minions left before she could sneak out Dyson, unconscious and beaten to a pulp.
- Carry a Big Stick: Since Berserkers can only be killed by blunt force trauma to the head, Trick hands out some impressive looking clubs for the group to wield in battle.
- Conservation of Ninjutsu: Dyson, alone, against a gang of Berserkers. It helps that he has good reason to be royally pissed off. They still take him down...
- Cool Chair: The Garuda has an impressive throne in its lair, made from the bones of humans and animals.
- Defiant to the End: Lachlan gives the Garuda a defiant grin before it cuts his head off.
- Diagonal Cut: How Ciara dies; the Garuda all but cuts her in half with its Flaming Sword.
- Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: While the Fae were all arguing amongst themselves, Kenzi snuck up behind the Garuda and smacked it in the head with a club. It didn't do anything, but you go girl.
- Divided We Fall: More or less how the Garuda works; it rouses and feeds on divisive passions.
- Do You Want to Copulate?: Lauren propositioning Bo (turns out, she just wants to sleep-sleep, not sex-sleep, with Bo).
- Flaming Sword: The Garuda's weapon of choice.
- Friendly Enemies: The Garuda and Lachlan engage in a bit of dialogue that feels like this before throwing themselves into a Duel to the Death.
- Heroic Sacrifice:
- Pretty much the entirety of Lachlan's plan; luring the Garuda into suicidal overconfidence so Bo could do her thing.
- Ciara puts herself in the way of the Garuda's sword to stop it killing Bo and Kenzi.
- Hypocritical Humor: Inside the Garuda's lair, Kenzi insists she's ready for anything...then something makes a noise in the distance and she Screams Like a Little Girl.Kenzi: I'm too pretty to die!
- Hold the Line: Dyson stays behind to hold off the Berserkers so Hale, Bo and Kenzi can try and save the Ash. Also counts as a Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
- Killed Off for Real: Ciara and Lachlan.
- Make Me Wanna Shout: When the group tries to attack it, the Garuda knocks everyone in the room off their feet with a combination of its hellish, eagle-like shriek and a blast of air from its unfurled Hot Wings.
- Mass "Oh, Crap!": The group's reaction when they realise the Garuda lured them into its lair so it could have a free path to strike at the Ash.
- Mook Chivalry: Subverted; the Garuda's minions attack the group en masse.
- Neck Lift: The Garuda grabs Kenzi in one of these after she hits it over the head.
- Off with His Head!: The Garuda beheads Lachlan.
- Oh, Crap!:
- This is Lauren's reaction when she sees the naga venom she extracted from Lachlan is beginning to coagulate, meaning they have only a limited window of time to use it against the Garuda.
- This is also Bo and Hale's reaction when they realise they left Kenzi behind.
- Kenzi's reaction after the pissed off Garuda shrugs off her attack.
- Please, Don't Leave Me: Dyson effectively tells Ciara this as she's dying.
- Pre-Climax Climax: Believing they could die in the coming battle with the Garuda, Ciara and Dyson sleep together.
- Prophecies Are Always Right: Unfortunately they have two. One from the Nain Rouge, one from the Wolf Spirit, each naming a different champion.
- Super-Speed: Ciara's Fae ability.
