"It's a rare kind of storm called a "blitzard," and it's expected to drop a ton of snow any second now."

Written by Roger Eschbacher

Pepper digs through her prop chest, unable to find her rubber chicken, and stops Vinnie from passing by to ask if he's seen it. He then responds, rather snidely, that he always sees it when she tells a lame chicken joke. Pepper, anoyed by this statement, asks if Vinnie thinks she's repetitive, which Vinnie affirms. Minka agrees and finds Vinnie's statement genuinely funny, but Minka's bouncing around and yelling renders Russell unable to read his book. This causes Penny Ling to come up, loudly eating a bamboo stick, and point out to Russell that he's been reading the book for three months, with Sunil chiming in, holding the rubber chicken, that it belongs to him and that Russell's borrowed it for far too long. Sunil then tosses the rubber chicken back at Pepper, telling her he's been trying to make it disappear to no avail. Pepper becomes furious that Sunil's tampered with her things, and the six pets break out into yelling and bickering. This upsets Zoe, who's been trying to listen to her music, but she can't hear it over the other pets' screaming and joins in on the racket. She then points out that it's getting close to the end of the day, which the other pets agree they can't wait for.

At the front area, Blythe is stacking cans of cat food when Mrs. Twombly calls into the shop to complain to Blythe about the TV repairman having not yet arrived. She also lets Blythe know that there is a snowstorm approaching Downtown City known as a "blitzard," and as soon as she finishes the statement, several feet of snow drop onto the block containing the Littlest Pet Shop all at once, scaring Blythe and telling Mrs. Twombly that they've become completely snowed in.

To that end, Blythe calls all of the pets' owners, informing them that Littlest Pet Shop has become snowed in and discovering they are all unable to leave their locations to come pick them up. Blythe ends the phone call with Mrs. Nevla and looks forward to seeing the pets play together some more.

A snowplow makes its way down the street, stopping in front of the Littlest Pet Shop to drop off Roger, Blythe's father. He waves thanks to the driver and turns towards the Littlest Pet Shop, only to get smacked against a wall of snow. Astonished at what he just walked into, he calls Blythe, only for Blythe to speak first telling him she's snowed in. Roger acknowledges that and informs her that he'll dig his way in. He takes out his pocket knife, pulls out the shovel from it, and starts burrowing his way towards the Littlest Pet Shop.

The pets are all watching the clock, hoping to reach 5:00 PM so they can get picked up. The clock ticks backwards for a moment though, and they all moan in frustration. At that moment, Blythe walks through the door, and all of the pets beg to be sent home. Blythe tells them she can't do that because the building has become snowed in and the owners are all stuck at work, Russell explaining they didn't hear the blitzard because they were too busy screaming. Blythe, not worried, says that they're all good friends, but the pets start telling Blythe about how annoyed at each other they've become. Hearing all this, Blythe demands that they take off their coats and hats and that they learn to get along, the pets doing so reluctantly.

Roger digs through the snow until he finds fresh air, but looks to his left and sees his entrance. Befuddled at how he could've turned around like so, he realizes to keep watch on his compass and jumps right back in the exit to continue digging.

The pets lay around the day camp in sour moods, having been forced to be quiet and calm down. Blythe tells them to find a way to have fun together, but Russell insists there's no room for fun when they're trapped with limited supplies and that it's growing colder inside. Hearing that, Blythe realizes Russell is right and checks the thermostat, only to find out the heating system is broken. Blythe informs the other pets that the heat is out, but they work themselves into a panic around Blythe's feet. Blythe tells them to put their winter gear back on, and after Russell does so, he says to Blythe that they should get into survival mode. Blythe, initially skeptical, decides to trust Russell with making a plan that will save everyone, but it causes the other pets to question Blythe on why Russell has been chosen above any of the other pets. Blythe then suggests they all work together, but Penny and Zoe refuse to work with each other, and they continue bickering.

Roger continues boring through the snow and sticks his head out in a large, open area. He looks around and finds himself in the parking lot of the Largest Ever Pet Shop. Wondering how he can be halfway across town, he pokes at his compass and finds out it's frozen solid, the ice in the compass popping out the lid. Undeterred, he goes back in and continues burrowing.

At the front counter, Blythe finds a box of emergency supplies. She pulls out a flashlight, a first aid kit, and space food, then checks on the pets in the day camp. She sees each of them bored and doing their own thing, and she laments that a blitzard day is supposed to be about fun togetherness. She goes into the day camp and goes into a musical sequence seemingly cheering up the pets, but that was only her imagination—they are just as grumpy as ever, and each of them as solitary as before. Blythe gives up and leaves the day camp.

Through the hole in the wall connecting the Littlest Pet Shop with Sweet Delights, Buttercream comes scampering in and asks if anyone wants to play. Everyone unenthusiastically murmurs hello to Buttercream, which perplexes her. She goes up to Penny, who's stacking bamboo into rows, and asks why everyone is in such a sour mood. Penny tells Buttercream that it's because they're trapped in the day camp with the heater broken and thast they're each coming up with a survival plan of their own. Buttercream then heads over to Vinnie, who's surrounded by alien text, looking straight up with heavily dilated pupils. Buttercream starts swiping at them in curiosity but bumps into Vinnie, causing Vinnie to return to normal. Buttercream asks Vinnie if he'd like to play Butterscotch, but Vinnie tells Buttercream that he needs to come up with a plan to ensure everyone doesn't freeze to death. Pepper overhears the exchange and tells Buttercream that she'll have to think one up because the other pets won't be able to create a competent one. Vinnie then continues concentrating, the alien lettering reappearing from his head. Buttercream turns to Zoe, who's posing at a mirror, and Zoe tells Buttercream that she's trying to find a way to help everyone survive via beauty and glamor. Buttercream says it "makes sense" and goes to Minka, who also is trying to come up with something.

Roger reaches a bubble in the snow large enough for him to stand in when he sees snow being shoved aside, a hole forming, and a man popping out of it identifying himself as a cable guy. Roger asks where he's heading, so the repairman shows him a sheet of paper with his destination. Roger tells him to go back through the tunnel, turn right at a partially-buried mailbox, and keep digging for another half mile. The cable guy thanks Roger and goes back, with both him and Roger happliy singing about digging.

Buttercream heads to the front, where Blythe is throwing playing cards at a dog bowl. Buttercream asks Blythe why the pets are so mopey, and Blythe tells them they're having one of those days where each of the things they do on their own gets on each other's nerves.

Roger then finds himself by an Inuit man standing by his igloo. Roger asks if he's reached the North Pole, which the man confirms. Roger groans exasperatedly and goes back in his tunnel to keep digging.

After much writing on his dry-erase board, Russell announces to the other pets that he now has a full plan to last out the blitzard. Before he can say anything more, however, all of the other pets chime in, saying they have their own plans too. The power then goes out, leaving the pets stuck in the dark. An air of increased worry sets in when Buttercream returns through the pet door to notify the other pets that Blythe has become trapped in the storage closet, with Vinnie astonished they have one.

Blythe, meanwhile, sits there with her flashlight, wondering what's taking Buttercream so long. All of a sudden, Blythe starts hearing concerned exclamations from the pets from the other side of the door. She reacts by claiming that she's starting to go crazy from being in there for too long, so Russell steps up and tells Blythe that he had studied every possible escape route, including that closet. To that end, Russell asks if Blythe has any markers and dry-erase board, but Zoe steps in and starts telling Blythe her plan to escape glamorously by striking poses, which causes Blythe to Face Palm. Pepper interrupts Zoe to tell a joke using the rubber chicken, which is part of her plan, that the other pets dislike with Blythe reminding the pets that she's still stuck inside. Penny tries next, having compiled a list of survival foods, Blythe correctly guessing they comprise solely of bamboo. Sunil suggests a "mind over matter" plan to put oneself into a psychological state of mind and then attempts, but fails, to teleport into the closet in order to teleport her out. Then, Minka advises Blythe to channel her energy, but she admits to not having thought it through.

Christie then peeks through the hole in the ground looking for Buttercream, beckoning her to return home to Sweet Delights, so Buttercream leaves, wishing good luck to Blythe. Finally, Vinnie flips through his notebook to find a plan. When he stays at a page, Russell recognizes it as a nuclear fission formula, but Vinnie tosses it away as he figures that can't help Blythe. Blythe then tells the pets that those plans won't work. Almost instinctively, Russell starts commanding the other pets on a plan, with Zoe intervening claiming her plan might be better, descending the pets into argument again. As they fight among each other, Blythe angrily steps out of the storage room and waits for them to notice. When they do, Russell exclaims that Blythe has escaped, with Blythe reprimanding them that their bickering was of no help and that Blythe simply gave up trying to get them to work together. Vinnie asks if Blythe was simply acting, and Blythe affirms with Zoe complimenting Blythe on her acting skills.

Roger's shovel hits something hard, and when he continues scooping snow at that location, some of the snow falls to reveal the front door to the Littlest Pet Shop. Overjoyed he finally made it, Roger cheers in joy, only for the snow around him to fall, trapping him within it. Blythe and the pets hear the rumble and thud and run over to find the source of the noise, and they see Roger stuck between the snow and the door. Blythe tries pulling on the door, but it's stuck tight. Blythe begs the pets for their help, but Vinnie is unconvinced and asks Blythe if it's another one of her tricks, to which Pepper promptly hits him with her rubber chicken. Blythe goes off to find something to help Roger with as the pets start arguing again, minus Russell, who yells at the others to calm down and that every pet can contribute to the plan. Zoe realizes Russell is right, and she asks Russell to start. Russell is initially in disbelief, but the other pets lend him their trust. Russell then asks the pets to remove the door's hinges. Pepper works on the bottom hinge as Minka works on the top hinge. Sunil then tells Russel that he, Vinnie, and Penny will bring a stepstool to remove the middle hinge, and Zoe runs off to get some blankets to warm Roger when he is freed. When Blythe returns, the pets tell her that they're working together. Pepper, Sunil, and Minka pull the door's hinges at once, and the door falls to the floor with Roger and the snow. Zoe runs over and puts the blanket on Roger's head, which Blythe picks up and puts on the rest of his body. Roger apologizes for having taken so long, but Blythe tells him that she's glad everyone is together.

The power comes back on, and the pets all realize they've been jerks to each other and say sorry, the seven of them coming together for a group hug. Mrs. Twombly then enters through the back and sees Blythe with a shivering-and-huddled-up Roger. She asks what happened, and Blythe explains that Roger had attempted to dig his way through the snow to get in but got trapped on the door, forcing her to remove the hinges and get him safely inside. Mrs. Twombly then tells Roger that he should've come in through the back door, as there is no snow there. Roger says he cannot believe it, and Mrs. Twombly agrees—though for the cable guy, who never showed up. It turns out he has tunneled his way to the Inuit man's igloo too. Giving up on trying to return to Downtown City, he asks the man if he has cable.

This episode contains examples of (YMMV entries go here):

  • Accidental Discovery: Vinnie figures out how to do nuclear fission and writes it on his notebook, but throws it away when he realizes he can't use it to save Blythe.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Roger's attempts to simply dig through the wall of snow to Littlest Pet Shop results to him digging to Largest Ever Pet Shop (which is according to him halfway across town) and the North Pole.
  • Artistic License – Geography: The Inuit man nods when Roger asks if he's at the North Pole, but the flag by the igloo suggests he is in Vancouver, which is about 49 degrees latitude to the south. In addition, assuming it's winter in Downtown City, which is confirmed to be in the northern hemisphere, it would have to be nighttime at the North Pole.
  • Artistic License – Physics: The astronaut food floats out of its canister as if in zero-gravity.
    • Russell behaves as if nuclear fission is something revolutionary, but it has already seen wide use in atomic bombs and nuclear power plants. He likely means cold fusion, which is a famous physics holy grail.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Blythe pretending to be stuck in the storage room.
  • Beeping Computers: Whenever the alien symbols float around Vinnie.
  • Big Eater: Penny eats the candy apples meant for Sunil and Vinnie in "Chase Away the Winter Blues."
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Roger says a variant of Blythe's "What the huh?," saying it as, "What the how?"
    • Blythe does Buttercream's "Anywho" spasm in front of Buttercream.
  • Brick Joke: Mrs. Twombly mentions in Act 1 about how her TV repairman is late. The repairman appears in Act 2, and he's late because he got lost digging through the snow just like Roger.
    • The Inuit man, first seen in "Chase Away the Winter Blues," appears for real later into Act 2 when Roger's tunnel takes him to the man's igloo.
    • The repairman and the igloo man then meet up on the last scene of the episode.
  • Buffy Speak: "The Inter World Webby," Mrs. Twombly's term for the Internet.
  • Call-Back: Buttercream talks about when she and the other pets got stuck in the candy pantry, which happened in "Topped with Buttercream." She also describes the experience as very fun, though that episode showed the other pets were at each other's throats too.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Vinnie, as usual. His survival plan, or at least thinking about his survival plan, involves alien lettering circling around him.
  • Collective Groan: From the pets when the minute hand moves backwards by a minute.
    • They groan again when Blythe will have none of their complaining, Blythe forcing them to stop bickering.
  • Continuity Nod: The third thing seen thrown out of Pepper's joke prop box is the singing fish from Christie's lost-and-found box.
    • Pepper's issue with repetitive joke-telling previously came up in "Penny for Your Laughs."
    • The pets previously found each other annoying in "Pawlm Reading."
    • Mrs. Twombly's doorknob collection, as seen in various episodes, apparently extends to her apartment living room too.
    • Blythe watches the same kind of butterfly that appeared in "Plant It on Rio!"
    • After the blitzard hits, the pets put on the same winter gear they wore in "Winter Wonder Wha...?" Except for Zoe, they spent most of their time wearing them in the day camp, as the room fell below freezing in that episode too.
    • During "Chase Away the Winter Blues," Blythe grabs the edges of Russell's mouth and pulls them up to create a smile, just as Russell himself did to Penny in "Russell Up Some Fun."
    • Penny Ling previously obliviously ate food meant for the other pets in "War of the Weirds." She also ate food meant for Ramon in "Plane It on Rio!"
    • Minka leads the other pets in bouncing around the room, just as she did in "Summertime Blues."
    • Vinnie was put into a frilly pink dress in "What Did You Say?" In "Chase Away the Winter Blues," he goes ballet dancing with a similar-looking dress.
    • Also from "War of the Weirds," after "Chase Away the Winter Blues," Russell can be seen writing complicated equations on a dry-erase board.
    • The game of Butterscotch gets mentioned again.
    • The Littlest Pet Shop had previous lost electric power in "Eight Arms to Hold You."
    • The storage closet was previously seen in "Lotsa Luck," when Mrs. Twombly showed Blythe her records as a kung-fu quilter.
    • This is not the first time Sunil tried to use magic to teleport and failed.
    • Pepper previously hit Vinnie with a rubber chicken in "Summertime Blues" and "What's So Scary About the Jungle? Everything!"
  • Crazy-Prepared: Russell's survival plan involved him studying the architecture of the building they're in and making an escape route for every area of the Littlest Pet Shop.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: Of the sepia variant in "Chase Away the Winter Blues," meant to look like degraded color tape from The '60s.
  • Depending on the Artist: The long shot showing the snowed-in city shows the street in front of the Littlest Pet Shop being much wider than it normally is.
  • Determinator: Roger will not stop digging through the snow until he reaches the Littlest Pet Shop, even if he has to reach the Arctic to do so.
  • Dramatic Irony: Blythe briefly thinks the snow is an opportunity to allow the pets to play together some more, not realizing they've been bickering.
  • Face Palm: When Blythe realizes her plan in Act 3 to get the pets to cooperate is not working.
  • Fast Tunnelling: Roger can dig from the Littlest Pet Shop across Downtown City, then to the Arctic and back to the Littlest Pet Shop between 5 PM and sunset. One of the Idiosyncratic Wipes depicts Roger furiously digging through the snow too.
  • Finishing Each Other's Sentences: Minka finishes Russell's statement to Blythe about being frustrated at each other.
  • Group Hug: When everyone apologizes.
  • Hair-Trigger Blitzard: Roger's screaming and cheering causes his tunnel to collapse with him still in it.
  • Hammerspace: Roger's Swiss Army Knife contains a full-sized shovel.
  • Holographic Terminal: Somehow, Vinnie has turned into one in Act 2, with glowing turquoise alien symbols orbiting around his head. Buttercream takes a swipe at them and disrupts it all.
  • Hostile Weather: The Blitzard.
  • Idiosyncratic Wipes: Snowflakes fall down in Act 1 after the blitzard strikes.
    • Roger gleefully digs across the screen in Act 2.
    • During "Chase Away the Winter Blues":
      • The snowflake wipe from Act 1 is reused here.
      • Pepper is swung across the screen.
      • A candy apple gets dipped.
      • A lot of candy apples fall down from above.
      • Vinnie and his stack of pillows come crashing down.
    • A bunch of snow plops down in Act 2.

  • Imagine Spot: "Chase Away the Winter Blues," as is revealed at the end of the song.
  • Iris Out: On the TV repairman.
  • Irony: Roger spends much of the episode trying to rescue Blythe and the pets trapped in the Littlest Pet Shop, but he winds up needing to be rescued by them.
  • Jabba Table Manners: Penny's chewing on her bamboo stick in the Cold Open.
  • Jerkass Ball: All seven of the Littlest Pet Shop regulars. It is unknown what made them all so grumpy.
  • Jump Cut: The shot of Vinnie crashing from the pillow stack is followed by a shot of Vinnie with his right leg in a cast. Subsequent shots in "Chase Away the Winter Blues" depict Vinnie requiring a crutch to move about.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: The other pets hate Pepper's joke about the abominable snow-chicken.
  • Match Cut: The end of "Chase Away the Winter Blues" shows Blythe sitting on her knees happy to see the pets having fun together, dissolving to a disappointed Blythe in the same posture watching the pets continue to do their own thing.
  • No Sense of Direction: Roger winds up in unexpected locations trying to dig in a straight line.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: During "Chase Away the Winter Blues," Sunil suggests Russell read a book about crocheting zombies.
  • Painful Rhyme: Lampshaded by Sunil in Act 3 regarding his own introduction.

  • Portmanteau: The "blitzard."
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: All seven of the Littlest Pet Shop regulars do this to Blythe, hoping to go home. Blythe is unable to comply because of the blitzard.
  • Rule of Cool: Zoe's plan to deal with the blitzard prioritizing remaining stylish over everything else.
  • Sarcasm Mode: Zoe refers to Penny Ling as "sunshine," whom she cannot stand.
    • Buttercream says that Zoe's plan to use beauty and glamor to survive "makes sense."
  • Schizo Tech: Mrs. Twombly's TV seems to be a rotary TV from the 70s, yet she's able to use a modern remote on it.
  • Serious Business: Russell treats being snowed in like a doomsday scenario.
  • Shout-Out: The clock's minute hand reaching :59 and ticking back to :58 may be a reference to the Tiny Toon Adventures episode "One Minute Till Three."
    • In Act 2, Roger digging around and winding up at the Largest Ever Pet Shop resembles the way Bugs Bunny would burrow around and randomly pop up somewhere.
    • Roger's song about digging may refer to the first part of "Heigh Ho" in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
    • Next to the Inuit man's igloo, when Roger visits, is the flag for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Doubles as an In-Joke, as this show is animated and voiced in Vancouver.

  • Snowed-In: With Blythe and the pets stuck inside and Roger and Mrs. Twombly stuck outside.
  • Snow Means Cold: The weather is somewhat chilly but not that cold, judging by the way Mrs. Twombly and Blythe are dressed, until the blitzard arrives, and then it suddenly becomes frigid.
  • Stupid Sacrifice: Roger risked his life to get Blythe and the pets out of the Littlest Pet Shop, but by the time he makes it in, Mrs. Twombly tells Roger that the back door has no snow and that he could've entered through there.
  • This Is No Time to Panic: Blythe tries to tell the pets not to panic when they find out the heat is out.
  • What He Said: Vinnie, about Sunil and him claiming he can create a plan to save everyone too.
  • Zany Scheme: What most of the survival plans the pets create amount to, particularly Zoe's, Pepper's, and Minka's.
