Recap / Little Witch Academia 2017 A Road To Arcturus

Go To

Chariot has decided to confront Croix and put an end to her plans. Unfortunately, Croix succeeds in shutting down all other magic across the globe except for hers. She ventures forth with Noir Rod to Arcturus Forest where the Grand Triskellion is sealed away.

  • All for Nothing:
    • Croix’s decade-long plan to obtain the Grand Triskellion blows up in her face and she has loses all her friends (Except Chariot) and her reputation.
    • Chariot's attempts to stop Croix amounted to this since the Grand Triskellion was never truly in danger of being abused like she thought it was. If anything, she only wasted her time, which she could have used to reconcile with Akko.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Headmistress Holbrooke and Professor Finnelan assists Chariot in taking down Croix. It didn't last.
    • Akko and her friends arrives and Akko stops the Noir Rod from killing Chariot and Croix.
  • Broken Pedestal: Woodward becomes this in Croix and Chariot's eyes.
    • Croix is maddened that Woodward has ignored her for so many years and she's still doing this in present day. At that point on, Croix yells to the ancient witch to leave. Which Woodward complies...
    • Chariot is in disheartened that Woodward was indirectly responsible for much of her woes.
  • Call-Back: Akko and her friends are transported into the Arcturus Forest after falling into the Ley Lines much like in the first episode.
  • Cliffhanger: Just as everyone celebrates for Akko's success, the Noir Rod is somehow still alive and is attempting to destroy the world.
  • Declaration of Protection: Chariot shouts to the Heavens that she'll protect Akko and Croix all the while fighting for her dear life against the Noir Rod.
  • Evil Laugh: Croix goes into a maniacal glee when the Noir Rod activates.
  • Group Hug: Akko and Chariot embrace each other after they finally reconcile. This is followed up by her friends who gives Akko one after she finally unlocks the Grand Triskellion.
  • Humiliation Conga:
    • Croix completely goes into despair after discovering the Grand Triskellion doesn't work for her, her Noir Rod turns against her and tries to kill her and Akko unlocks the full powers of the Grand Triskellion while she has nothing except possibly being kicked out of Luna Nova and face serious prison time.
    • Chariot tries and fails to stop Croix from claiming the world-altering magic and that's not the Worst of it. She discovers that said magic is nothing but a puny stick, then she learns that Woodward was the one that screwed her over, and lastly the Noir Rod beats her within an inch of her life and it's only Akko's interference that she's able to survive. After that's over, Chariot is left a broken person without any faith, a goal, a job and friends except....Akko.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Akko's willingness to forgive her mentor is what unlocks the Grand Triskellion for her.
  • One-Winged Angel: The Noir Rod collects all the negative energy form the citizens of Blytonbury and turns into a demonic dragon.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Chariot, of all people, decides to try and kill Croix. Her attempts in thrusting her blade right at the latter's skull being a jarring example, showing just how deeply hurt she is after losing Akko thanks to Croix's actions.
  • Police Brutality: What Andrew's father and Blackwell intend to do to take care of the growing riots much to Andrew's horror.
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: Akko yells out "Shiny Arc!" just before defeating the Noir Rod.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: While Croix succeeds in obtaining the Grand Triskellion, she can't uses its magic because she never meet its requirements and the only one who did is Akko who Croix drove away.
  • Rule of Symbolism: There is a lot of hidden meanings behind several scenes.
    • Woodward's departure following the failure of the Quest represents the failure of witch society and the end of their Golden age. And the dead and rotting landscape of the Arcturus Forest just further enforces that point.
    • The Noir Rod collects all the negative energy, turning into a monstrous being that attacks everyone on sight, symbolizing all the cynicism, anger, envy and pettiness that has rotted the witches' values to its very core.
      • Considering that the Noir Rod is the product of Chariot's poor choices in the past, Chariot confronting it is her finally confronting her demons.
  • Save the Villain: Once Chariot gets freed from her restraints, she stays to protect Croix from her rebelling creation.
  • Tears of Joy: Chariot is overjoyed that somehow and someway her friendship with Akko remains intact despite all the drama that forced upon them.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Croix goes into severe panic after learning the Grand Triskellion is nothing more than a puny stick. When the out-of-control Noir Rod has her at its mercy, Croix finally succumbs to fear and begs for mercy.
  • What You Are in the Dark:
    • Woodward abandons Chariot and Croix to their fates eventhough she has a close relationship with the former.
    • Despite possibly still furious at Croix for ruining her life, Chariot steps in to protect her from the Noir Rod.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: When Akko requests Chariot to be her teacher again, Chariot pleads to her that she's unworthy after her accidental draining of the girl's magic but Akko assures to her that she never got far to success with magic but Chariot's guidance.
