Recap / Little Princess S 1 E 15 I Dont Want To Share

Go To

On a hot day, the Princess is eagerly waiting outside the garden shed. The narrator asks her what's going on and she cryptically replies, "We're looking for something". The narrator asks if it's special, and the Princess replies, "Very". She then reveals that it's her paddling pool, which the Maid retrieves from the shed. The Gardener shows up and the Maid hands it to him to blow up, then she helps the Princess into her swimwear.

They go to the pool, and upon seeing a duck, the Princess gets territorial and shoos it away, but it doesn't budge. She runs up to the King and tells him about the duck, but he and the Queen think that the Princess should just share with the duck.

The Princess has a go in the pool with the duck still there, then Scruff goes in too. She throws his ball, then they clown around for a while. The King and Queen, feeling annoyed by the hot weather, start wading in the pool and horsing around splashing each other, with the Princess joining in.

They end up drenching the Maid, who tells the Prime Minister, "The King and Queen are playing with the Princess." He asks if they're in the paddling pool, and when she affirms, he thinks that idea is "marvellous" and runs off in his flippers. Meanwhile, the royal family continues to have fun, and the Gardener joins in by spraying them with his hose.

The scene cuts to the royal family continuing to have fun in the pool, this time with the Gardener and Admiral there also. The Prime Minister and General then run up and leap into the pool, knocking the Princess out of it. She grumpily declares that she no longer wants to share due to the lack of room. They do leave, but they seem a bit offended. The Princess is a little bored, however, with no one around so she decides to get some toys to compensate.

The Prime Minister and General swap toys, then the Princess goes over and asks the General if she can borrow Nessie. He says no, however, as he's still mad with her for not sharing the paddling pool. The Princess goes over to the Admiral and Gardener, who are eating in the pond, and asks the Admiral if she can borrow a toy boat, but he's using them all.

She goes back to the pool and broods, feeling lonely and bored. She then, however, gets an idea and goes up to the pond. The Princess offers the Admiral her scuba mask and he accepts it, then she goes to the General and offers one of her armbands as a cushion to help him ride the Prime Minister's tricycle. This cheers her up.

The Princess then sees the adults crowding around. Curious, she walks up to them and it's revealed that they've bought a bigger pool. Thus, everyone is now able to happily share, and they do.

This episode provides examples of

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Puss wears his sunglasses at one point.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: The duck seen at the beginning of the episode becomes the Princess's first unwanted pool guest.
  • Lost Toy Grievance: The Admiral cries over one of his toy boats sinking.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: The Princess boasts being able to "swim" when it's just sitting in the water and moving her arms as if swimming. Justified since she's four, and four-year-olds often take great pride in any skills they have, no matter how trivial they'd seem to an older person.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite being one of the more grounded adults, the Queen goofs around when she's in the pool, stomping, laughing, trying to splash the King, etc.
  • Pain to the Ass: The General finds the Prime Minister's trike seat painful.
  • Slapstick:
    • The King, Queen, and Princess accidentally drench the Maid with water while she's trying to do a jigsaw puzzle.
    • The Queen falls over in the pool while trying to sit down.
    • The Princess ends up accidentally flung out of the paddling pool by the General and Prime Minister.
