Recap / Little House On The Prairie S 5 E 14 Dance With Me

Go To

Tropes associated with this episode:

  • Aesop Amnesia: Laura takes Albert's advice about ignoring the boy she wants to be invited to dance by and making him jealous, forgetting that when she tried to do just that in Season 2's Spring Dance, it backfired, and that the "ignoring the boy you like" advice didn't work in Season 4's "The Rivals" either.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Although both are middle-aged to seniors and their ages are never made clear, Amanda Cooper tries to dump Toby at one point by pointing that he's too old for her (Ray Bolger was 15 years Eileen Heckhart's senior). He retorts by claiming she's older than him.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: As this episode is 90 minutes, it's rarely shown in syndication (as stations/networks typically only show episodes whose run times are in multiples of 60 minutes).
  • Maybe Ever After: The episode ends with Toby and Amanda dancing and implies they might have a Relationship Upgrade, but due to them never showing up again, it's not confirmed whether they became a couple.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Charles says it almost word-for-word when he realizes how much of an annoyance Toby has become while staying with them, eating all the food before they can and buying a suit to impress Amanda on credit with Charles' account: "An act of kindness never goes unpunished".
  • Special Guest: Ray Bolger returns as Toby Noe, the Ingalls' old friend from Winoka, whom Charles and Jonathan encounter during a freight run.
