Go To

The team go after the seemingly corrupt CEO of a greeting card company only to be roped into taking part in a documentary being shot.

Tropes

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Felicia, the seemingly jovial and low-level HR director, is the real embezzler/counterfeiter, setting up Fred because she's sick and tired of being an unknown within the company.
  • Blatant Lies: While the crew tries to blend in as experts that deal with employee trust and motivation, they soon have to drop the whole pretense when the camera crew catches onto their discovery of embezzlement.
  • Book Dumb: Bartley is so dumb and focused on sports that he can't understand "you were framed for embezzlement" until it's put into sports terms.
  • Expy: Fred Bartley brings to mind Michael Scott, although their cluelessness for business are different (Fred understands it in football terms, while Michael is a Genius Ditz and just keeps coming up with bad ideas).
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: As soon as the camera crew are revealed, the episode is shot in the Mockumentary style of The Office (US), complete with cutaways to a confession cam, jittery camera work, and office antics.
  • Germanic Depressives: Gunter wants to make a documentary about the grinding futility of existence. When the crew tell him he's made a heartwarming tale of triumph, he destroys the only remaining copy.
  • In the Style of: The Office (US). The camera angles are remarkably similar, the cutaway gags, humor and setups are very remniscent of an episode of that show.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: After Eliot beats up a man who was involved with the counterfeiting, said man is at the confessional saying not to tell anyone he got beaten up by an efficiency expert.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Eccentric German filmmaker Gunter Hanzig? Who could this possibly be a reference to?
  • Spanner in the Works: Two for the team. First, they had no idea a documentary was going to be filmed and naturally, being followed by cameras is affecting things. Second is the discovery that Bartley is actually not a corrupt scumbag but a decent guy over his head which throws off the con.
