Recap / Legends of Tomorrow S6E6 "Bishop's Gambit"

Go To

Mick takes the Waverider and Kayla to try and find Sara, but these enemies find themselves needing each other to survive after landing on the possible planet Sara is being held captive. After a report of an alien attack, the Legends return to their new headquarters, Constantine's manor, where both Spooner and Astra try to connect to the alien. Zari is suspicious of Constantine's behavior, but isn't surprised when she learns the truth. Meanwhile, Sara devises a plan to escape by using her charm to win over Bishop, but she learns something more disturbing.

Tropes:

  • Bad Boss: Bishop lowers the barrier with all of his Ava troops still outside, not caring if they get suffocated, as they can be replaced.
  • Booby Trap: Spooner has rigged Constantine's house with several of them, in case an alien tries to attack them there.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Bishop says to Sara, "You're like a caveman to me — or like a monkey. Or like a cave monkey."
  • Contortionist: Turns out Gary can squeeze himself through sewage pipes.
  • Dead All Along: The Sara we have been watching since last episode, ever since she drank Bishop's "antidote," is a clone and the real Sara died. It is unclear if there are any methods to resurrect her at all.
  • Determinator: Even while being suffocated, Mick manages to free himself from being tied up to a tree.
  • Distressed Dude: Mick gets taken by the Ava clones. They leave him to suffocate, restrained to a tree, when Bishop lowers the barrier to the planet's atmosphere.
  • Easily Forgiven: Mick towards Kayla, despite the latter doublecrossing him.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Bishop, when seeing Sara in a beautiful dress.
  • Enemy Within: What happened with Amelia Earhart, as she had an alien placed inside of her which eventually takes her over. The same seems to have happened with Spooner.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Nurse Ava, when Bishop orders her to lower the barrier, with all the Ava troops still outside.
  • Evil Gloating: Bishop towards Sara, as he points out to her that she cannot permanently kill him.
  • Feels No Pain: Not no pain at all, but Bishop modified his pain receptors, making him feels significantly less.
  • Friendly Enemy: Bishop gets very excited when Sara acts as if she wants to join him.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: Behrad and Spooner respectively, towards Amelia Earhart. Though Spooner actually pulls herself together and it's Ava who then plays the Bad Cop.
  • I Owe You My Life: One of the Ava's gets rescued by Gary, which causes her to stop her sisters from killing him.
  • Lack of Empathy: Bishop, who casually tells Sara that he (supposedly) killed Mick and is still surprised that she doesn't want to join him afterwards.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Kayla lets Mick get taken by the Ava clones and sabotages Gary's attempts to save Sara so she can escape with the Waverider. The lowering of the barrier stops her from doing so, plus Amelia stole the Waverider first.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Sara towards Bishop. Not that it bothers him much.
  • The Oner: The episode opens with one of an increasingly irritated John seeing each of the Legends get installed around his mansion.
  • The Paragon: When Kayla tells Mick how much humanity sucks, he agrees, but then points out that Sara is better, which is why he has to save her.
  • Pass the Popcorn: While Behrad and Spooner are interrogating Amelia Earhart with the rest of the Legends watching everything on television, Nate has a bowl of popcorn for the show. He offers some to Ava, who declines.
  • Properly Paranoid: Mick takes an oxygen mask with him on the alien planet despite Kayla's assurance that it was not needed. This saves both their lives.
  • The Reveal:
    • Bishop is a clone. Or rather, he has had dozens of clone bodies.
    • The real Sara is dead and we have been watching a clone of hers since the last episode.
    • Spooner is being possessed by an alien that is trying to control her from within, just like Amelia Earhart.
  • Secret-Keeper: Astra helps Constantine hide the loss of his magic from Zari.
  • Super-Speed: The Alien that breaks out of Amelia Earhart displays it during her fight with Spooner.
  • Tempting Fate: Mick and Kayla land just when Bishop gloats that nobody is coming for Sara's rescue.
  • Toilet Humor: Gary manages to get in and out of Sara's room by squeezing through the pipes in Bishop's base and coming out of the toilet. Sara is naturally disgusted when he tries to hug her afterwards.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Sara finds out that she died and is really a clone.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Poor Amelia Earhart was abducted and experimented on, having an alien entity placed inside of her.
  • We Have Reserves: Bishop can make more Ava clones if he kills some in the process of stopping intruders.
  • Wham Line: Sara has just done a big speech to Bishop on how "every scar on my body is who I am."
Bishop: But Sara... I don't see any scars on you.
  • Wham Shot: The real Sara's dead body.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are:
    • Gary gives this speech to the Ava clones.
    • Behrad also gives this to Spooner.
  • You Could Have Used Your Powers for Good!: Sara ponders that Bishop, with all of his intellect and advanced tech, could have been a so much better person than he is now. Bishop of course fully believes that he already is using his powers for good.
