The Unit goes up against the Pentagon when a pregnant Marine is found dead in the trunk of her car, her baby carved out of her, and her rapist/father of her baby remains at large. Benson's flashbacks to her own experiences with assault only complicate matters.
Tropes
- Obstructive Bureaucrat: Navy Commander Grant Marcus tries to snatch the case from SVU. Greylek was able to snatch it right back. And then they tussle over jurisdiction some more. It ends up being a Red Herring.
- Oh, Crap!: Mrs. Crewes, the mother of the Victim of the Week, walks in the squad room while they're having a briefing and pictures of the victim are on the screens in front of them, shocking Mrs. Crewes.
- Shell-Shock Silence: A pretty eerie example: While trying to break up a fistfight between two suspects, Liv, still working through her near-rape experience from the previous season, is knocked in the head when shoved back. The sounds become muffled as Liv comes dangerously close to reflexively blowing a suspect's head off...
- Straw Misogynist: When the military is granted sovereignty over the case and Benson is subpoenaed, Marcus tells Greylek that she'll be surrounded by men in uniform and Olivia should "take her pill."
- Tropaholics Anonymous: Olivia is in a support group for rape victims at the beginning of the episode.
- Vomit Discretion Shot: When Olivia discovers Jessica Crewes dead in the trunk of her car, a bloody mess from having her baby cut out of her womb, the impound lot attendee she's with can be heard throwing up. The most we see, though, is the woman bent over.
