- Double-Meaning Title: The title refers to Mike's initial status as a suspect (as in we like him for this murder). Because Mike turns out to be a genuinely good person, it also refers to how the cops, prosecutors, and presumably the audience come to like him.
- Earn Your Happy Ending: Mike is put through hell and even admits in court to committing crimes to prevent a murderer from going free, but the Bronx DA drops the charges against him, presumably leaving him free to marry the woman he loves.
- Honor Among Thieves: Mike works as a bookie. More accurately, he takes bets as an assistant for a bookie, but he's also a hardworking and otherwise honest man who puts himself at risk to see justice done.
- Jury and Witness Tampering: Tony Garcia threatened Mike over the phone to prevent him from testifying against Tony's brother Ricky.
