Recap / Law & Order S4E14 "Censure"

Go To

The Rudmans, Dan and Janet (Jane Kaczmarek), receive threatening where the voice-masked caller demands money or else he will harm their daughter. Logan and Briscoe set up a trap, but the man who picked up the pay off points them to somebody else: appellate court Joel Thayer. Stone declines to take Kincaid off the case even though she begs him to. The charges against the judge are dropped and he files a complaint against Kincaid who had been his clerk, which results in her being censured. Kincaid admits to having had an affair with the judge and resigns. Fortunately, she returns to the DA's office after the judge admits to his actions in court and her censure is lifted.

Tropes present in this episode

  • Ripped from the Headlines: The Solomon "Sol" Wachtner case.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Kincaid tells Schiff and Stone that she had a previous working relationship with Thayer and reveals she had an affair with him as well. Stone blames her for not telling him this when she asked to be taken off. He is not very sympathetic about wanting to keep an aspect of her personal life private.
