Recap / Law & Order S15E18 "Dining Out"

Go To

After a swanky benefit gala for a charity foundation, TV network head Lisa Taylor is found dead in the park next door. Fontana and Green initially suspect the Finneran brothers, who run the charity; Lisa was about to report them for embezzling. But a little more investigation reveals she was having an affair with celebrity chef Aberto Moretti - and had just ordered the cancellation of his TV show. DNA evidence suggests he attacked her, so he is arrested.

Complications arise when it's discovered that a juror, Sara Jobson, had an arrangement with Moretti to sway the jury in his favor. Jobson, who knows him through her work as a restaurant critic, is obsessed with him and he easily manipulated her into helping him. McCoy calls her as a witness, but the defence discredits her. However, her testimony leads McCoy to question Moretti's business partner; who reveals Moretti's lucrative contract with a food manufacturer would be voided if he lost his TV series. When McCoy breaks the news that the company has now given the contract to another chef, Moretti snaps. He says he didn't even like Lisa, he only slept with her to further his career and then she threatened to ruin everything he'd worked for, so he killed her. His defence accepts a plea for manslaughter.
