Terra's next stop on his hunt for Vanitas is the Olympus Coliseum. Upon arrival, he ends up in a town near the city of Thebes, but is accosted by a swarm of Unversed, forcing him to fight them off. Once he does, he encounters a young teenager named Hercules, who is impressed by Terra's strength and convinces him to join the upcoming games.
Accepting Herc's offer, Terra heads up to the coliseum, where he meets the Lord of the Dead, Hades. Though up to no good due to scheming to defeat Zeus, Hades decides to take Terra under his wing and teach him to harness the darkness within. As Terra proceeds to participate, defeating hordes of Unversed in each round, Hades begins to realize that Terra is not that willing to embrace the darkness. So instead, the god decides to use another hero: Zack Fair.
Zack and Terra eventually fight in the final round, with Terra emerging victorious. However, a frustrated Hades proceeds to corrupt Zack with darkness, enhancing Zack's battle prowess and brainwashing him. Zack pleads with Terra, imploring him to free him from Hades. Terra then fights Zack once more and eventually defeats him, forcing Hades to flee.
Grateful, Zack begins to realize that Terra has the makings of a hero as the crowd cheers for Terra and declares him a champion. The two warriors promise to have a rematch someday before Terra leaves.
