Recap / King Of The Hill S 7 E 4 Goodbye Normal Jeans

Go To

Peggy becomes jealous of Bobby when he uses his home ec. class cooking skills in the Hill kitchen.

Tropes:

  • Always Someone Better: The crux of the episode, as Bobby proves to be a far more reliable, and better, homemaker towards Hank than Peggy.
  • Artistic License – Economics: The bank would have never allowed Dale to withdraw Bill's money without his say so, he'd have been notified immediately as the amount demanded was well beyond what was in his savings.
  • Camp Straight: Peggy's hairdresser acts like a stereotypical Camp Gay, to the point Peggy fully believed he was gay. Until she met his wife and son.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Peggy loses her sense of purpose when she feels that Bobby is a better homemaker than her, making her wonder what she's supposed to do if Hank doesn't need her anymore. Hank makes it clear that he didn't marry her because he wanted someone who cooks and cleans, but because he loves her.
  • It's All About Me: Hank and Bobby unexpectedly start bonding more than ever after Bobby starts taking Home Ec, but Peggy cares more about how she feels useless because of Bobby's new found domestic skills.
  • Jerkass:
    • Bobby's home ec teacher treats him with dismay when he fools around with an iron and gives him "extra credit" for his homework as a result. That said, she does help him mend Hank's jeans when Peggy damages them in the wash when the boy asks her.
    • Peggy, unsurprisingly also becomes incredibly jealous once Bobby starts doing her job better than she does. Even trying to sabotage Bobby's Thanksgiving dinner.
    • Dale takes all of Bill's money after he bets that Bill can't throw a beer can into the cooler and Bill jokingly writes him a check for a million dollars. And when Hank tells him to give the money back:
Dale: What's the point, Bill will just spend it on something stupid, like himself!
  • Never My Fault: Peggy doesn’t apologize to Hank for accidentally ruining his jeans nor does she give Bobby an apology for sabotaging his turkey, instead placing the blame on both of them.
    • Even her hairdresser agrees with Peggy, claiming that both Hank and Bobby made her feel worthless in her own house.
  • Thanksgiving Episode: Downplayed until the second half, but the episode takes place in the leadup to the holiday.
