Kahn gets fired from his job after blabbing company secrets to Hank, who then tells the guys.

Tropes:

  • Break the Haughty: For Kahn. After losing his job, he strives to get a good new one, but his Jerkass personality pretty much ruins any chances he gets.
  • The Caretaker: Hank pretty much does all the chores for Minh around the house after Kahn leaves, and it's clear she's taking advantage of him, though Hank doesn't mind. Peggy on the other hand...
  • Change the Uncomfortable Subject: While cutting the general's hair, Bill brings up the golf club made from the special metal and then mentions that they are making it for use on tanks, which causes Stunned Silence over him revealing confidential military secrets. He changes to an even more uncomfortable subject by outing a private (who's also getting a haircut) as gay.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Hank sees Minh just after a fight, with Kahn locking himself into the bathroom. When Minh tells him this, Hank points out it's normal to lock the bathroom door to avoid embarrassing mishaps.
  • Delayed "Oh, Crap!": When Kahn gets fired from his job for breaking his confidentiality agreement and denies before he realizes what he did.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Kahn has this attitude, in contrast to Minh, when he runs off his garage sell and tries to refuse when Hank offers to pay for Laotian lessons for Bobby.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After going through a time of financial and personal struggle, Kahn finally gets a good job and comes back into Minh and Connie's lives. One downside is that the new job is located in Houston, which means a three hour commute each day as Minh refuses to move, but he's still happy about finding a good job nonetheless.
  • Expospeak Gag: Kahn tells Hank's he's gotten a new job in the "reprographics imaging industry". We then cut to Kahn working at a photocopying store.
  • Family Honor: Kahn implies this when he opens up to Hank on why he feels he needs a good job, stemming from his Asian upbringing.
Kahn: I not go home without new kick-ass job. I show you. I get new job that make you cry every day.
Hank: Kahn, I love propane through and through, but okay, I'll give you this: your old job was something else, okay? Now go home.
Kahn: No! I can't fail! This not supposed to happen to me. I'm Asian, for God's sake. More expected of me. You not understand. You somebody's worker bee. If I accept your redneck life, it like I bury myself alive.
  • Garage Sale: Kahn and Minh have one in an attempt to get more money, but when Dale tries to buy a panda radio, Kahn gets angry and runs everyone off.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Peggy encourages Hank to help out Minh in their time of need, but when he enjoys the work a little too much for her liking (not to mention Minh's doting on him with snacks and refreshments), she becomes jealous.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: Dale says this word for word when he discovers Kahn working at the photocopying store and needing computer help for an ad.
  • Imaginary Love Triangle: Played with in one scene with Hank mowing the lawns of his own house and Kahn's. Peggy and Minh get competitive giving Hank refreshments with Minh giving him cookies, then Peggy giving Hank a glass of lemonade, then Minh pouring him a glass of beer, and Peggy topping it off by giving Hank a tool belt of beer cans.
    • Dale and the guys even tease Hank about it, joking that he's a polygamist.
  • Irony: Peggy urges Hank to help Minh take out the trash, with Minh taking out three large bags and struggling. Hank reluctantly complies. But before he goes over to assist, he gives Peggy his own grocery bags, making his wife struggle and fall.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Kahn in the first half. He offers Hank a tour of his workplace, supposedly with the purpose of discussing a propane contract. He shows Hank around and impresses him with a golf club made of metal planned for tank armor, capable of making a ball hit by that club travel 400 yards. But in the end, Kahn admits that he never had any interest in a propane contract (his facility has underground fuel cells that power everything) and he just roped Hank into the tour to boast about the superiority of his job, completely wasting Hank's time. However...
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Kahn's obnoxious boasting to Hank about the superiority of his job soon bites him in the ass because it was a secret project. When the military catches wind through Bill, he loses his superior job, all because he had to lord it over Hank.
  • Loose Lips: Hank tells the guys about the secret metal project, which Kahn told him in the strictest of confidence, This is taken further when Bill makes conversation about the subject with the general while cutting his hair. As far as the episode's concerned, Bill is never reprimanded for this breach of top secret information.note
  • Mood Whiplash: After Kahn opens up to Hank about his insecurities and doubts, the mood gets lightened when he calls Hank a pervert (due to him looking into a mirror at Kahn without a shirt).
  • Never My Fault: Although deep down Kahn knows what he did wrong, he's not so willing to admit his jerkass behavior is what leads him to him losing his job. And blames Hank for revealing his secrets despite the fact they were his own responsibility to keep, which Hank points out to him.
  • Noodle Incident: Kahn gets three strikes and gets fired from his photocopying job after insulting customers. We see two incidents involving Chuck Mangione and his rant against the customers. We don't see his first offense.
  • Oh, Crap!: Dale after he calls Hank a polygamist after he drives by the guys with his mower and reversing it back, causing him to run away in fear.
  • Pet the Dog: When Hank finds Kahn at the Luly's restaurant, Kahn opens up about his struggles and admits Hank is his best friend. And in the end after bragging again, he quietly thanks Hank for his help.
  • Pride Before a Fall: With Kahn rubbing it in everyone's faces about his promotion and roping Hank into a tour and blabbing to him about the top secret metal program, he gets himself fired. He should consider himself lucky they didn't sue or arrest him for revealing that kind of high level sensitive information.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Feeling frustration with the customers with his photocopying job, Kahn vents his feelings to everyone in here, which results in his firing:
Kahn: I can't help you. I can't help any of you stupid people. "How does this machine work, Mr Kahn?" "How do I print?" "How do I save?" It "Control-S", you morons. It's always "Control-S"!
  • Runaway Hideaway: Hank eventually finds Kahn at a Luly's restaurant, where he's living at until he can find a good job.
  • Say My Name: Hank and the guys exchange each others' names one by one when he drives by them with his lawnmower.
  • Take That!: In-universe example. When asked if he would ever go into the systems career field, Hank said he would consider it only if he ever became so brain-damaged he couldn't be trusted with propane.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Right after Kahn loses his systems job, Hank tells Peggy about it while in the garage. While Hank tries to laugh it off, Peggy calls him out on his gossiping to the guys, especially Bill, and calls him a chatty Cathy before storming off.
