Recap / King Of The Hill S 12 E 6 Raise The Steaks

Go To

Hank gets into organic foods after eating a grass-fed steak and juicy, organic vegetables and becomes a food co-op volunteer, but things get rough when the Megalo-Mart offers to buy the co-op and the volunteers sell out their belief in farm-to-table eating in order to make money.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Call-Back: This marks the return of Appleseed, one of the hippies from Phish and Wildlife.
  • Call to Agriculture: The co-op has connections to a real free range farm, which makes their food better quality than what is at Megalo-Mart. Unfortunately, when the co-op sells out to Megalo-Organic, which is just as industrialized as the rest of the Megalo-Mart chain, the quality drops. It's also revealed that they keep their cows in factory farms, which explains why the meat is low in quality.
  • Green Aesop: Hank learns that buying organic food isn't limited to just fruits and vegetables, as he discovers even meat tastes much better when it comes from a humane setting where animals are treated properly compared to the poor quality meat from Megalo-Mart's factory farms.
  • Hypocrite: The entire co-op, who preach endlessly about being a non-profit, sell out the instant they make a tiny bit of profit.
  • Oh, Crap!: Hank has this reaction when the cows and chickens he stole from the farm break through Kahn's fence and he threatens to call the police, prompting Hank to tell Appleseed to take the cows and chickens and find a place to hide.
  • Only Sane Man: Appleseed's the only member of the co-op who snaps back to his original beliefs when he sees how badly Megalo-Organic has handled things.
  • We Named the Monkey "Jack": Appleseed names the calf after Hank.
