Recap / Kids Incorporated S 4 E 11 Win A Date With Renee

Go To

Richie becomes the center of his third episode in his first year with the band, this time deciding a good way to raise funds would be to auction off a date with an unsuspecting Renee. What could possibly go wrong?. Also, we get the first of two appearances by a guest star from the 1986-91 ABC sitcom "Head of the Class" in Brian Robbinsnote .

Things start off with a performance of "Who's That Girl", followed by the kids relaxing while Connie and Richie square off in a table tennis game (Kid once again providing play-by-play), ultimately won by Connie (though distracting Richie in the process). Before Richie can issue a protest, Riley arrives with posters, followed by a suggestion that the kids have a bake sale to fund their own posters. Richie, however, has a different idea in his mind as the kids return to the stage for "One Fine Day"note .

After the song, Ryan and Kid exit as if they sensed a disturbance in the Force, and soon discover the cause of their worry: Richie is planning a raffle, but not just any raffle but a date with Renee. Worse yet; he didn't even ask Renee for her permission. The others' warnings about Renee's temper ("Renee's gonna clobber you") fall on deaf ears. Renee then arrives with her suggestion (a car wash) only to spot the poster. Needless to say, she's not happy ("I'm going to clobber him"); leading to "If I Say Yes"note . Upon finding Richie, Renee - not surprisingly - explodes on Richie, angrily demanding Richie get the tickets back (something he couldn't do, as he had actually pretty much sold out of tickets before Renee found out). Richie then tries apologizing ("I'm Only Human"), leading to Renee very reluctantly agreeing. Richie eventually made enough to get the posters for the band (with an "X" over Richie's face thanks to Renee). Renee, meanwhile enjoyed her time with the winner, Brian Robbins; though when the gears begin turning in Richie's head again, the others quickly put a stop to any other plans, leading to closing song "Only in My Dreams".
