Recap / Kids Incorporated S 3 E 11 Peter Pam

Go To

Stacy takes center stage in 2 of the last 3 regular episodes of Season 3; first finding herself grappling with the prospect of no longer being the baby of the family.

We kick things off with a performance of “Neutron Dance” before the kids return to the back where we see four of them reading various books (Ryan reading “Great Detective Stories”; Gloria a rock and roll magazine; Kid a comic book; Stacy reading Peter Pan) when Renee enters with big news. Renee and Stacy’s mother is pregnant; leading to much congratulations being offered while the others throw out suggestions for names (Gloria and Ryan, respectively, suggest their own names; Kid goes with Babe Incorporated) and all are excited…all, except Stacy, who begins fretting about the fact she’d no longer be the baby of the family. Meanwhile, Riley has come down with a cold and is taking it out on the kids, rushing them on to the stage for their next number (“Move Away”), though not before Stacy lingers long enough to wish she was Peter Pan.

Following the conclusion of “Move Away”; Stacy gets her wish, imagining herself (and somehow managing to drag the others with her) into Never-Never Land as Peter Pam (“with an M”). The calmness of Never-Never Land is soon shattered when Captain Hooknote ; who apparently shares Riley’s cold, and his pirates invade, leading to a brief battle before his gang of pirates retreat in defeat (“Yo Ho Ho”)note .

With Captain Hook defeated, the others want to return home for various reasons (Kid, not surprisingly, wants to be a superstar; Renee hopes to become the first woman President; Ryan’s interested in college; Gloria has her eyes set on getting a driver’s license, having already picked out - and repeatedly told the others - her first car; a baby blue convertible) before the band’s senior members invite Peter Pam to join them in growing up, a decision she needs time to think on (“Take Me Home”)note  before eventually agreeing to go home.

Back in the real world, Stacy’s mood has changed significantly as a result of her adventure, while the others dismiss the trip…until seeing Tinkerbellnote , upon which they take off. Stacy briefly returns to give Think a brief thank you before joining the others for closing song “Back in Time”.

As for the baby, we never hear anything on the new arrival after this.

Songs performed in this episode:

Tropes associated with this episode:

  • The Baby of the Bunch: Stacy has been this with her and Renee’s family, though with their mother becoming pregnant that is soon to change.note
  • Call-Back: Ryan has either checked out once again or bought a copy of “Great Detective Stories”
  • Evil Is Hammy: Captain Hook in "Yo Ho Ho".
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: During the “Move Away” performance, a few shots show the word “Incorporated” in the Kids Incorporated neon sign is not lit, significant in that the Imagine Spot takes place immediately after the song.
  • Gender Flip: While performances of Peter Pan normally have a woman playing the title character, for the Imagine Spot the character is renamed Peter ‘’’Pam’’’ (“with an M”).
  • Growing Up Sucks: What Stacy is convinced of, particularly in terms of not wanting to become a big sister.
  • Imagine Spot: The Peter “Pam” plotline.
  • Infant Sibling Jealousy: Stacy develops a case of this shortly after finding out her mom is going to have a baby.
  • Snap Back: The baby sibling of Renee and Stacy is never mentioned after this one reference.
  • Storybook Episode: Most of the plot takes place in a Peter Pan themed Imagine Spot.
