Recap / Kid Cosmic S 3 E 5 Kid Cosmic And The Planet Killer

Go To

The Local Heroes make it back to Erodius, only to learn that Fantos has taken the Planet Killer to Earth to destroy it and prove his worth as a villain. With real stakes on the line, Kid and his friends must make their stand to defeat them once and for all.

Tropes help. Tropes care. And tropes... sacrifice:

  • 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: The meteors in the beginning of the episode are 3D.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Despite being an omnicidal psychopath, Fantos's death was so brutal with his desperate cries against the planet he idolized that the Local Heroes can only watch in terror.
  • Big "NO!": Kid's reaction when Papa G sacrifices his stone and potentially his life.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Erodious has been healed and slowly dissolves, but Papa G’s fate is left uncertain until the next episode.
  • Break the Cutie: Kid doesn't take Papa G trying to sacrifice himself well...
  • Brought Down to Normal: Becuase the Cosmic Stones were powered by Erodius, its healing leads to them being rendered inert.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Erodius turns its surface into slime and absorbs Fantos into itself.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Fantos' complaints about how Erodius isn't doing exciting things like destroying planets is played out like someone's significant other complaining about how the spark has gone out in their relationship.
Fantos: What happened to that ultimate force of evil that I fell in love with?
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Erodius does not respond well to Fantos manipulating it to destroy Earth, and destroys Fantos by absorbing him into itself.
  • Forced to Watch: Fantos traps the Local Heroes inside his makeshift armor and tries to make them watch him destroy Earth.
  • Feeling Their Age: The instant Papa G sacrifices his stone, he becomes a weak, shriveled old man missing his healthy glow.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Papa G has no choice but to give up his healing stone to stop Erodious from destroying Earth at the near cost of his own life.
  • It Only Works Once: Kid doesn't think turning into slime to destroy Erodius will work because it only worked in the fantasy.
  • Karmic Death: Fantos tries to take control of Erodius himself to destroy Earth For the Evulz, but Erodius fights back and destroys Fantos in return.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: Jo attempts to turn the tables on Fantos by providing him with his ideal fantasy: His mother coming back and revealing she's a fan of Erodius' planet-killing rampages.
  • No One Could Survive That!: Papa G is buried under a bunch of rocks and rubble, but survives unscathed thanks to his healing stone.
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": Kid lets out a succession of these when Papa G seemingly dies after getting buried under rubble.
  • Real After All: The fourteenth stone was originally something that the Lotus-Eater Machine made up to send the Local Heroes on a wild goose chase, but it eventually turns out to be a "lucky" healing stone Papa G had in his possession all of his life, which explained how he survived many accidents, and lived a long life.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Papa G is one hundred and twelve years old thanks to his healing stone.
  • Sentimental Sacrifice: Papa G sacrifices his healing stone to stop Erodius' rampage and bring it peace.
  • Special Edition Title: Thanks to the powerful, yet tearjerking, ending, there is no Title-Only Opening sequence with the rock music after the episode's conclusion, since it would ruin the mood.
  • Spotting the Thread: Fantos quickly figures out the same Lotus-Eater Machine trick by remembering how much his mom hates him, after dumping him on Erodius.
  • Silent Credits: The final episode to do this, with a static shot of the planet Earth with no music.
  • Tragic Villain: Erodius used to be a sentient planet made of healing crystals that could heal those who stepped on it, but it was destroyed by an asteroid leaving only one piece of it left. While its physical form was destroyed, its consciousness survived and traveled the universe for over 100 years, searching for the last remaining piece that survived its destruction in order to restore itself. Rebuilding itself in the process by inadvertently ripping apart every planet in its path with its gravity well as it tried to locate its missing piece.
  • Wham Line:
Papa G: I... I have the fourteenth stone.
