Tropes

  • All for Nothing: Despite their best efforts, Fantos prevents Kid and his friends from saving Flo's diner.
  • An Arm and a Leg: In retaliation for their defiance and assault of Erodius, Fantos rips off Queen Xhan's arm. He wields it as an electrified whip against the Local Heroes.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The way Fantos warps everyone makes it look like they would be separated across the universe. Instead, they find themselves together back on Earth.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The Heroes destroy Erodius for good and save Earth, but the Cosmic Stones it possessed are scattered all across Earth afterwards, setting up the potential for villains to misuse their powers. Thus, the PPG recruit them to fix things. Also, Flo's diner is destroyed by Erodius, with Queen Xhan forced to flee to parts unknown.
  • Call-Back: When Erodius shows up near Earth, there's multiple shots of Erodius being seen near Earth from multiple locations: Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Cairo, Hawaii, New York City, Hollywood, and Boise, Idaho. The same locations Jo was flipping through pictures of on her phone in the first episode, in the same order.
  • Chekhov's Gag: Kid had the worst luck in obtaining the seemingly useless Goo Stone. After falling into one of Earth's fractures, he finally finds a good use for it with the Growth Stone.
  • Continuity Nod: The Local Heroes encounter the military again, just after defeating Erodius. Contrary to Kid's belief that the Biker in Black is back, it is actually a group known as the Planet Protection Group, who mentions that the Biker was actually a rogue agent who defied their authority.
  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: On a planetary scale. They try to defeat Erodius by having tons of ships and the local heroes pulling it apart bit by bit.
  • Earth-Shattering Kaboom: Using both the Growth and Goo Stones, Kid has everyone sink into Erodius in order to destroy the Planet Killer from the inside.
  • Flashback Echo: A flashback reveals that Queen Xhan's plan to stop Erodius ended even worse than Jo's. While she teleported herself to Earth at the end of Season 1, the same way Jo did before surfacing on Erodius, she was unable to do the same for the other survivors who got pulled towards and atomized by Erodius, seemingly ending their attack before it ever began.
  • Foreshadowing: Fantos mocks Jo at one point by saying that she's living in a fantasy world. Two episodes later, Jo will find that they didn't really defeat Fantos and Erodius and that they're all trapped in a Lotus-Eater Machine.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Kid keeps repeating how much he hates getting stuck with a "goo" stone and wishing he had his telekinesis one back because it's way cooler. Everybody using a "goo" stone is what lets them defeat Erodius, however. They just needed to come up with a good way to apply it.
  • Here We Go Again!: Subverted. After Erodius' defeat, the Local Heroes are surrounded by government agents, which Kid believes means that the Biker in Black is back, only for three women known as the PPG to instead come down and clarify that they're not there to take the stones and that the Biker in Black was a rogue agent acting out of line, then take Kid and the heroes to become global heroes so they can find all stones and protect them from evil hands.
  • Hope Spot: With a treasure trove's worth of Cosmic Stones at their disposal, the Local Heroes finally have an edge during their first attempt against Erodius. Just as Kid finally finds his green Telekinesis Stone, a shockwave forces him to drop it. Fantos uses it to prevent a Disney Death and sabotages the Heroes plans.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Kid finds some Cosmic Stones in his utility belt, allowing him to come up with one last plan to defeat Erodius.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Clusters of Cosmic Stones are scattered all over Earth after Erodius' destruction. The PPG makes it clear that Kid and Jo's team "kinda messed up", implying that their power may fall into the wrong hands, if not reckless ones.
  • No Plans, No Prototype, No Backup: Jo decides on trusting her friends than coming up with a well thought-out plan.
  • Power Equals Rarity: Fantos reveals that, of all the known Cosmic Stones, the Telekinesis Stone is considered the most rare right as he uses it to completely curb-stomp all of the Local Heroes and toss them back to Earth.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Erodius is finally destroyed, but there is no way to restore the planets destroyed and the cosmic stones it held are scattered all over Earth, risking its safety should they fall into the wrong hands. The battle also costs Flo's diner, and Queen Xhan is one again forced to flee for her life after saving the little aliens inside one of the motel rooms with her wherabouts unknown.
  • Running Gag: Kid keeps finding Goo Stones while searching for the Telekinesis Stone.
  • Running Gagged: Kid continues to mispronounce "Telekinesis". When he is finally reunited with his green stone, he finally pronounces it correctly.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Still mad about her son going back on his word, Fantos' mom leaves him behind on Erodius and dumps all of his collectables, clothes, trash and furniture with him.
  • Sequel Hook: The Local Heroes defeat Erodius, but now the Cosmic Stones it possessed are now scattered across Earth. The Planet Protection Group is now counting on the newly-dubbed Global Heroes to gather them, setting up the third and final season.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The title of the episode is a reference to the classic catchphrase at the end of every episode of ''The Powerpuff Girls'.
"So once again, the day is saved thanks to the Powerpuff Girls".
    • Likewise, the Planet Protection Group heads act as a big reference to the cartoon with the groups' initials, their speech to Kid, color-codes, designs and even having the girls' original voice actresses, also made by Craig McCracken.
    • Several of the trailers that show up to battle Erodius resemble the Eagle 5 from Spaceballs.
  • Skewed Priorities: Kid is hyperfocused on reclaiming a telekinesis stone, instead of considering using one of the many other stones literally just lying around.
  • Trash the Set: Fantos warps everyone out of the vicinity, allowing Erodius to plow through Flo's diner, which was the team's base since the start of the season.
  • The Unreveal:
    • Queen Xhan teleports the tiny aliens, and later herself, to places unknown to escape Erodius as the latter destroys Flo's dinner.
    • The Cavalry fighting for Flo's diner are teleported away by Fantos, though whether it's back to their homes or elsewhere is unknown.
    • Fantos's fate is unknown after Erodius is destroyed, considering he was standing on Erodius when it was destroyed but the explosion wasn't fully destructive to 100% warrant him being dead.
  • Wham Shot:
    • While desperately trying to find his Telekinesis Stone, Kid and Jo discover Erodius's source of power. Since he has been busy absorbing planets, including the ones belonging to Queen Xhan and the previous survivors, that also means that those fragments have become Cosmic Stones. Jo encourages everyone to use any Stone they can find, allowing them to use different powers and even combinations of them.
    • The Local Heroes realize that Fantos sent them all back on Earth, but Erodius is already approaching them thanks to Fantos opening a large portal with the purple stone of power straight towards the planet.
  • Where It All Began: The Local Heroes are not just warped back to Earth; they find themselves climbing out of a giant hole where Flo's diner used to be before Queen Xhan warped them into space.
